versa pod or harris

I prefer the versa pod frankly... yeah I know they are junk but they serve my purpose and with those palm swell adapter's I can have an adapter on ebery riflr that I would use a bipod on and just switch the legs to where they need to go.

sure harris is great, but I don;t like how big the stock plate is.... and how many moving parts are there. I just find the versa pod simpler for MY needs..... I am an armchair tactical commander, my rifles will never see battle nor will they be handled harshly. I don;t shoot 3 gun or any of the other run and gun game.

I shoot paper..... I shoot steel..... very seldom do I even go hunting anymore except for grouse.

The US Army uses Harris bi-pods on their M14's in Iraq. They seem to work well under adverse conditions. I don't know about Versa-Pods, some people like them and other don't. IMHO, they will work probably as well as Harris. However, I've owned a number of Harris bi-pods over the last 25 years or so and have never had any problems with them :D

I got a rock mount and as far as I can tell it is identical to a Harris.

Except you supported a totalitarian, militaristic communist regime bent on destabilizing the balance of power in Asia by buying a chinese knock-off. ;)

I prefer Harris, built by Harris Engineering which does not repatriate it's profits to the PRC.

Hey koalorka have a look around your house and try not to find something made in China, bet you find tons of stuff!

I want to support communist china... where the hell else are we going to be sending Kevin B after afganistan / iraq is over.

would hate to have to put him on the shelf ;)

Ok, the versa-pod may/probably sucks, supports Communist country that manufactures all of your clothes anyway, but I'm curious as to how it compares to the Parker-Hale bipod?

I know the versapod is based off of it, but is it an exact copy? How is it worse/better than the original?

Personally, I'm waiting to see how the Tangodown bipod stacks up when it becomes available. It looks/sounds very promising.

The Parker-Hale is a tank -- I've used them - but I think they belong on a .338LM or larger they are overkill on a 5.56mm or 7.62 system

The Versa-Pod is a cheaply made copy using Pot metal -- the US Army tried them on the SPR - but removed them in favour of the Harris...

I have a Harris on most of my weapons -- I am gradually replacing some of them with the Tango Down...

Just bought a harris benchrest model and have to say compared to my versa pod it is heftier..... I also have a chinese knock off harris which is pure crap when compared to the real thing.

might change my mond on some rifles like my 10/22.... but not sure if I would put it on my ar15 because it is bigger.

in the end i went with a harris bipod.
here is what i found regarding the metal composition of the versapod taken from:
http://www.snipercountry.com/InReviews/VersaPod_Update.asp
"Issue Three: Metal composition

Here is the most negative observation. While this has not happened to our unit yet, we have seen at least one Versa-Pod break at the pivot point of the legs. The metal in question appears to be cheap "pot metal." This was not known until examining the broken area. This is really unacceptable because a bipod used for sniping will undergo a harsher level of stress than one solely mounted on a varmint rifle. The Versa-Pod is a copy of the triply expensive Parker-Hale unit. One can only assume that the P-H is made of much stouter material.

While we can still recommend the Versa-Pod for varmint shooting, we now have to express reservations as to its ability to withstand the rigors of military or police sniper operations."
