While flawless during limited range and field use, while practicing loading with tipton snap caps, my tacord versamax tactical often locks in the closed position. It released if you apply gentle rearward bolt pressure with a moderate bump of the stock on the floor. No amount of pulling back on the bolt will otherwise release this. Can anyone else repeat this?

I'm not overly concerned as it is so far a snap cap only problem, and I get the feeling that a fired shell against the boltface would do whatever the floor bump does. If there is a chance of the bolt locking forward with a misfire, I'd like to see if there is anything that could be done. I will do more range testing as soon as it reopens.

Thanks in advance for listening to one man's lockdown boredom induced problem.

A snap cap is not a dummy round. Use inert dummy rounds and there will likely be no problem.

Correct as always. Two dummy rounds plus 4 tipton (plastic snap caps) and 15 minutes of testing found that the dummy rounds and two of the four snap caps never locked the bolt. The other two snap caps, always locked the bolt during loading/unloading drills.

It's not obvious to me what is causing the jam, but rehab will consist of measurements and polishing.

Cheers!
