Hey guys I borrowed an SKB semi-auto shotgun to shoot trap and sporting clays with the other day and really liked it. I want to shoot sporting clays more (that was my first time) and start waterfowling as well. I own 2 pump shotguns, an 870 express and a dominion arms grizzly.

I think I want a semi-auto to seriously pursue sporting clays and hunting, so maybe you guys could point me in the right direction on what gun to get? I don't want to spend a ton of cash, I would say 1500 would be as much as I'm willing to pay. The SKB seemed really nice, I think I shot well with it. Should I just go with one of those, or is there anything else out there I should look at?

For half of your budget look up BaikalMP-153/Remington SPR453 (respectively) 3.5 " chamber for waterfowl and will do light 2 3/4" loads for clays.Great guns. Do your research.
 
In your future I predict..... a man will suggest that you buy a Beretta 391 as it is "the ultimate" semi for sporting applications.

Myself personally, I shoot and will recommend a Browning gold Sporting clays in 12ga. I absolutely love it! a breeze to take down and clean, super reliable, the speed load function is pretty sweet. While the SC version might not cut it for hunting, there are other Gold models that come with a larger chamber ie.. 3" , 3 1/2" that would suit your needs.

Your best move would be to frequent your local club and try any and every gun you can before you make your decision. Proper fit and feel seem to be all the rages these days :p

I've got a Benelli Urika AL 391 which doubles as my waterfowling and skeet gun. Poor thing had the livin' snot pounded out of it last season with 30+ hunting trips to lakes and corn fields. I probably cleaned it good maybe 5 times, the rest was a run with the bore snake and a shot of oil to the action if it was lucky. I had one jam the entire season! This gun owes me absolutely nothing. Definitely worth looking at.

I thought the AL391 was made by Beretta.
 
Lotsa people putting their vote for the 391; I have shot one myself and I really liked it, but when I was out for a semi, I opted for the Winchester SX3 synthetic. Took it fowling a few times last season and downed quite a few birds, also good for the range. $1000 with change from Lebaron's, worth a look-see. If you wanna shoot it I'll let you have a go at Mission.
 
Exactly the same as Browning Silver IIRC, Gold has some differences (I forget what they are).

Sherlock is right, it's a breeze to clean the SX3.

Mine's a 26" so carrying it in the field is also very welcoming. Might wanna go for 28" for trap though.
 
Gold has a different bolt for the speed load and mag cut off. It's the same as silver, that's why i know the sx3 is easy to clean.

Agreed. I know at least 3 391s. 2 of them are around 8-10 yrs old and never been totally cleaned once, only bore scrub and some g96 in the action. They never missed a beat.
