Is it possible to buy an AR15 reciever, import a 50bmg bolt action upper and have it non-restricted?

I ask this because the AR18 uses the same FCG as the AR, but its non-restriction resides in the fact that the upper is a different system than the AR15.

Given this as the case if you built one from scratch with a 16" 50BMG single shot upper, would it still be restricted?

The lower is the registered part. No matter what you bolt on to it it will be restricted.

Also the AR-18 is prohibited. You're talking about the AR-180B which is a different rifle.

I don't know about the availability of these rifles or their classification but if it's non-rest you could look in to buying an AR-50.

Well according to wolverine they are not issuing export permits on the AR50, a US thing I guess...

Yea sorry, I did mean the 180B.

Oh well, thanks for answering that :D

Yeah I figured it would be hard to get a hold of. I only mentioned it because I saw one on the cover of the Vancouver Province when some local guy was caught downtown causing a ruckus with his pistol and had all his guns confiscated.

Anything over 0.499" is highly restricted for export. There are even problems with pistol and black powder cartridges that are 50cal.

Silly, YES but the policy makers have little humour....nor understanding.

You may want to research component availability and costs before pursuing a BMG project. It most certainly is available. Just limited.
