That's a pretty clean take on the problem, I'm guessing that the slot that the cross pin rides on is angles so that it snugs up against the stock as the set screw locks it in place from moving forward?

The Caldwell unit works well but the swivel sling point is a weak link.
 
It's interesting that they choose that rifle stock to mount it on for their promotional shot as it looks like the wings are a bit wider then ideal for the contour of that stock..... otherwise it looks pretty sleek.

Precision Optics, can you confirm that it's an angled slot for the cross pin that snugs it on to the stock when the set screw is tightened?

A wee picture of how the cross pin indexes the 'Lil' Brandi' would solve the mystery. For the price, would like to make sure it's a solid mount before picking one up. Though picking one up I would like!

I'd assume the slot for the cross pin would be a backwards L shape (or something similar), allowing the pin to drop into the rail unit, slide forward, with the hex screw from the rear holding the pin forward in the bottom of the slot to keep it tight and prevent it sliding back out vertically. 🤷‍♂️
A straight vertical slot wouldn't seem to hold the unit secure enough for confident sling mounting.

B&T makes quality items, I would expect it to be a simple and rock solid design.... but I agree the pictures and diagram are lackingQ

Considering whether this item plus a pic bipod would be any more stable than the usual previous solution of a Harris with its sling stud grabber. B&T would want you using an Atlas under this!

A big advantage would be that a pic bipod with a quick clamp could go on and come off much more easily in the field.

But this is an extra dongle to buy and not lose and have hanging off the front of your rifle the rest of the time.

And my sling-stud rifles are mostly for shooting offhand, and only temporarily go on a bipod or otherwise get benchrested to verify group size and zero sights/scopes so that I can be sure any problems that persist offhand are entirely due to the nut holding the rifle.

Correct-a-mundo: you spin out the set screw so that the sling stud with cross pin installed can fit into the wide opening in the bottom of the Lil'Brandi. Then, as you tighten the set screw, the cross pin rides the internal slope downward sucking the Lil'Brandi down to the stock. We have not heard of a complaint thusfar.

The easy on off as you say is an advantage, and back at camp or near the back door a guy could easily mount a light on the pic rail, not for everyone though that's for sure..... a head lamp and a backpack or bag works pretty good too!
