Hey guys~the dropping temperatures have me thinking about spring groundhog hunting again, so, part of that is countless hours of research, online reviews, hunting videos. All more fun than watching crappy sitcoms with the Mrs. after the kids go to bed!
Recently, I was watching a video done buy a guy who'd put together a varmint gun with an extremely heavy-profile stainless barrel. His goal (he even added lead shot into the butt of the synthetic stock) was to get as heavy/stable a gun as he could manage for stability/long-range shooting. I cover WAY too much distance to be lugging around a 23lb. rifle (the weight he'd proudly boasted about) but it got me thinking about the factory vs. custom route for the next varmint rifle. Probably not shopping until about this time next year, but, it got me wondering if any of the avid varmint-shooters on this site had ever put together a gun like this. Caliber for me will likely be .243
I'll try to find the video again tonight when I get home, and post what his rifle specs were. He could really reach-out with the thing though. Impressive long-range groundhog kills.
