Very Nice 7.62x51 Surplus....Boxer Or Berdan, Cases or Battle Packs

Out of a 20 inch Remington 700 heavy barrel I was getting 2650 fps average velocity from the berdan primed. Shot accurately for surplus too. Easily averaged moa accuracy.

This is what I found with the Hirtenberger-mine is 1974 manufacture date. I also chronographed two other loads for comparison using a Savage 10BA with 24 in bbl.

My load for this rifle – Sierra 155gr. Match
Max: 2931
Min: 2913
Avg: 2919
1 S-D: 7.2 fps
Groups .43 MOA

Dominion Arsenal 1964
Max: 2941
Min: 2903
Avg: 2918
1 S-D : 14.4fps
Groups 1.3 MOA

Hirtenberger 1974
Max: 2918
Min: 2874
Avg: 2895
1 S-D: 17.5fps
Groups 4.6 MOA

I use CCI BR2 primers in my load and they are flattened but no dimples.
Both the Hirtenberger and Dominion Arsenal primers have fairly rounded edges after firing but I suspect they are harder than the CCI primers. I use the DA 1964 in my 7.62 converted Enfield No4 with no issues and it has rear locking lugs. All of the bullets that I chronographed are fairly close in velocity but the same velocity does not necessarily equate to the same pressure. I have no idea what pressures are for any of these loads other than what the primers show and that I don’t get a tight bolt with any of them.

Both the Hirtenberger and Dominion Arsenal primers have fairly rounded edges after firing but I suspect they are harder than the CCI primers. I use the DA 1964 in my 7.62 converted Enfield No4 with no issues and it has a single rear locking lug. All of the bullets that I chronographer are fairly close in velocity but the same velocity does not necessarily equate to the same pressure. I have no idea what pressures are for any of these loads other than what the primers show and that I don’t get a tight bolt with any of them.

I've had good luck with born in '83 (women it is) ;-)

Are these hard primers?

Sorry I didn't mean to suggest that the HP primers are hard. I was just trying to say that it is possible that the CCI BR2 primers might be softer. Truth is I don't really know.
By the way I still think this is very good ammunition even though my rifle doesn't like it. Previous posts on the same ammo suggest that some guns do very well with it.

I find the CCI br2 and br4 primers are definitely on the softer side. Have experienced minor flattening, even with minimum loads but I usually look for cratering
