Hopefully someone can confirm this for me before I proceed, although I think I know the answer. Do you need to resize unfired unprimed brass fresh from the factory (made for the caliber being loaded of course) before loading it? I would imagine it's already the right size neck etc, but I just wanted to make sure.

From what I've read in the past the general consensus is that it's a good idea to run the brass through your sizing die because it's just another step towards ensuring consistency. Doing so can help to remedy any concentricity issues that the brass may have developed during shipping. Trimming to length and chamfering the casings would also be beneficial as I suspect the mouths of all the casings you get will be squared-off and a bevel on the mouth will help bullets seat more easily.
 
I do. One reason is that during subsequent reloads they will pass through my die first, and I want to develop a load that will work as well for those reloads. I also check length on the factory brass. Can't hurt to confirm they conform to my intended specs. At worst, it's a waste of time.
 
I have 125 new .243 Win cases that I purchased recently. They are supposed to be a trim length of 2.035" for .243 but these varied from 2.032" to 2.046" but most were about 2.040 +/- .003. I decided to trim this new brass to make it a uniform length and found that the necks were so tight they wouldn't fit over the .24 mandrel in my Lyman trimmer so I had to run them all over the expander button in a die before I could trim them. I full length re-sized them at the same time to make sure they would work in my semi-auto. Just goes to show that even factory new brass should be checked out before being reloaded.
 
I just load it and shoot it the first time. If I was doing some sort of competition I would then look at doing all the prep before the first loading.
 
I always FL size new brass. They're often dented and dinged and, let's face it, who knows how consistent they are from the factory.

FL size, trim, chamfer/debur, flash hole uniform, then load and fire. Why not start as uniform as possible?
