Do some types of .45 ACP brass take small-pistol primers, while other take large-pistol primers?.....:yingyang:

Sorry if it's a totally ridiculous question, just trying to sort-out the truth from the misc. stuff I've come across....;)

I have both, I try to 'keep em seperated' so I don't bugger up my Lee 1000 when I am 'volume' reloading...... I only have 500 brass that is SPP of the 4500 45 brass I have, but you never can be too careful....

AFAIK the only brass that has SPP for 45ACP anymore is the winclean stuff, everything else is LPP. That's not to say you won't find some older bras that is SPP.

Cheers!

I second this altough not only Winchester made clean ammo at some point, Federal, American eagle, Speer and CCI also made some, don't know if they are still on the market but that means you've got a few headstamps to watch for

Ok, the Question has been asked and answered...sort of.
Ok, it ahs been answered, what was/is the reason this was tried and now standardized?
Anyone know?
I am just curious why this was done and changed thats all.
Thanks for the Education .

Ahhh, Thank You Charles.
I missed the bit about Clean Ammo and what it was.
Thank You for pointing me in the right direction.
Again Thanks for the Education.

Clean ammo, also known as non-toxic that uses small primers, was designed for indoor range use if I'm not mistaken, but never popular due to its price
I have never seen large pistol primers that are "non-toxic" maybe they exist though
