hey rimfire guys. I am in the process right now of trying to fit a green mountain barrel into a basic DAR22 receiver and it is nearly impossible. I've put the barrel into the freezer for ten minutes. also applied heat to the throat of the receiver to aid in the fit. applied a couple drops of gun oil to hopefully help things along. the barrel slid in about a quarter inch, then I tried persuading the fit with a block of hickory and a rubber mallet. went in about another eighth of an inch with some serious pounding using the mallet, with and without the hickory block.

is this a common problem with the Dlask receiver? is a hydraulic press-fitting required to seat the barrel in the receiver? the GM barrel fits well in the stock ruger receiver with little or no serious persuasion, but this Dlask item is a different story. does some minor grinding of the receiver throat need to take place? hoping someone can give some advice. thanks

I think most people grind down the barrel slightly... The aftermarket barrels are purposely cut slightly larger than needed, in order to account for the sloppy fit of the stock receiver. The aftermarket receivers, however, are cut to size in order to properly fit the stock barrels. When you combine the two, you can run into issues.

As for the barrel... You really need to leave it in the freezer overnight, and you can heat the receiver in a toaster oven or something at a low heat. There's a few threads that cover this, so you may do a search (or just browse the Rimfire forums) and you should find a good way to do it.

My GM was the same in my DAR receiver. I rolled up 400 grit sandpaper and polished the interior of the action. Slid right in. I was surprised at how little it took. Hope this helps.

The DAR receiver is machined to fit a stock barrel more snug than a factory receiver, also, most aftermarket barrels are slightly oversized to fit the sloppy factory receiver. The two combined make for a very very tight fit. I have a few put together that I refuse to disassemble.

MAKE sure you have the barrel lined up perfectly when you install it, or you will be cursing like a sailor when you try and fit the block.
