Vets that empty your wallet

I have a friend that got talked into doing hip surgery on his 14 year old Labrador... $10,000 dollars gone, three months later, he paid $500 to have it pit down and cremated.
Can't blame the vet for that. Not at all. The "friend" must have far more money than brains.

My elderly dog is prone to ear infections. Was recommended by the vet tech at my local vet to try a product called mister Ben’s ear wash for dogs. I purchase on Amazon. I wash his ears with it about once a month and haven’t had to take him to the vet since.

Yeah, I can blame the vet... he spent a considerable amount of time guilt tripping him about all the loving, loyal years the dog gave him... pressuring him to spend the money.

My dog gets chronic ear infections. I found OtiScrub worked best. Tried Surolan and others. This was the best. Also heard that you can use over the counter Zymox Otic Solution

Oh I blamed a Vet once, and questioned can you legally do your job if you are pregnant. 600$ for them to tell me that my dog got a sore elbow and that's why she wouldn't eat.

Got a second opinion, ended up being acute kidney failure. Ironically I had kidney cancer at the time.

Of course a vet can do their job if they are pregnant.

I had a dog recently with a badly broken leg and called the same vet that does our horses. She came out, looked at the dog for no more than 10 seconds, said “we can either amputate the leg or put him down and have him cremated for you since the ground is frozen”. Both options were about 250 bucks. After the amputation surgery I made a comment weird you can’t cast a dogs leg the same you can with a person and she said oh you can but it’s expensive 😑

My great uncle learned how to do pretty much everything himself for his dogs. You can get all the veterinary over the counter meds you could need at our local feed store. If a steer broke a leg and the butcher shop wouldn’t take it he would process it himself for the freezer.

How much do you want to spend in an animal is what it really comes down to. We become attached to our pets but we need to understand that they don’t last as long as humans and well will all outlive them anyways

WOW... that would have been nice to know sooner.

But they complain alot about pregnancy brain. No matter the other symptoms. It was nope its a sore elbow.

So my experience, it effects their ability to think some more than others.
So if you ran a vet clinic would you want to pay someone 9 months to not come to work even when they want to? It’s hard enough for a small business to even find someone who shows up on time.

My wife phoned our vet with a question and they sent her a bill. No appt just a random phone call. I truly believe mine is just a racket. We spent a lot of money getting 2 surgeries on the back end of my blue tick hound. They botched it the first time and resulted in 2 more surgeries to try to fix what they F-d up. I’m going to stop because I get pretty hot about this topic.

Like I said above, I have a cheap vet and they wouldn’t have even given me the option of a surgery on a dog. “Amputate the leg or put him down and cremation, same price”. If you have farm dogs that you didn’t pay much for, sometimes it’s the unfortunate reality

I have nothing against women being pregnant and working. But when it effects your ability to think and do your job. Stay home and ruin someone else's life. The meds they gave us, did not help her kidney.

Even my American vet tech friend said it was stupid. He saw dogs with broken legs still eat. A pittie just doesn't stop eating because a sore elbow. Unfortunately that vet doesn't work at that place anymore.

This is why when I get a good vet I keep them. I will only see Dr Sanderson a tiny 80lb women that loves Phoenix, and Dr Danni that deals with Evie.

i use Ballistol oil with a Qtip to clean the sh... out , works great , if necessary a few drops of surolan after ......

He walks and runs fine with only 3 legs lol
My buddies heeler is a little three wheeler and gets around good. Doesn't keep up with the other 2 any more but he still gives er. We did a little fundraiser auction to pay for his surgery cause our friend couldn't afford it when it happened. I got a t shirt for 75 bucks. Best damn t shirt I ever bought.

...50 years ago, if your dog was sick and dying it got 50 cents worth of lead. That is not how things are now.
COVENTRY — A dog’s owner and his girlfriend restrained a dog and distracted it with hamburgers as a local man shot the canine in the head, according to police. Anthony Demitraszek, 67, was told the dog had been aggressive and bitten the owner in the face, so he was asked to “do something,” which he understood as to “put the dog out of its misery,” police said in his arrest warrant. The two held the leashes on each side while the dog ate, and Demitraszek fired a round into the dog’s head, causing it to die, according to the warrant. Demitraszek said the dog was disposed of in his backyard with the help of a neighbor, who dug a hole with a heavy-duty machine, the warrant said. Demitraszek was charged by Coventry police on Oct. 24 with cruelty to animals. Judicial records show he was released on a $5,000 bond and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in state Superior Court in Rockville.
