I recently purchased a Vetterli - just because. It is missing the firing pin and loading port cover. EE was non cooperative so I lucked out there.
I have a pic. of the pin but it's not to clear as to how the sear is attached, it seems to go through the pin?? Is the sear part of the pin / does
it float free? The port cover looks straight forward and is my least priority at this time.
A good description / pic. of the pin would be appreciated. PM me for my Email addy if you have any assistance to offer / post it here
and no it's not converted to center fire - yet. Take care all --- John

Hi John.
Check out YouTube for a video under "vetterli centerfire conversion". It is dry to listen to but will show what I think you are looking for.
Also for indepth Swiss Vetterli info, google "Swiss Vetterli Forum"...should be first on google's list & part of the Swiss rifle forum. Leagues of Vetterli info there.
PM me if I can be of other first hand help.
Cheers

Yes I have the hole in the side of the reciever and I have a pic. of the port cover. From what I've read this is called the "first model"
and then a change (as in no port cover) = second model.
I've been to the Swiss forum and understand how to convert to centre fire, I however need to get / make the whole firing pin. My main
question is how is the sear attached. Thank you for your interest, I'll look for an original pin a bit longer but probably have to make one.

Hi John.
Not to pick at terminology, however the sear would be the metal piece that the trigger moves downward to release the firing pin. I believe what you
are interested in is the firing pin lug which the spring and the sear contact. Assuming this is correct my answer would be as follows.
Looking at a pin this moment. It looks to be a rectangular piece that is pressed into a milled/broached hole and possibly silver soldered in place.
If I were machining one from scratch, I would turn the pin.. then mill a 3/16" slot into the pin with an end cutting milling cutter and square the ends with a small file.
If you were fortunate to have a 3/16" broach, the alternative would be to drill & broach the end positions square & then mill out with a 3/16 milling cutter to connect & form the slot.
Then pressed the shaped lug into the slot and silver solder or tig in place. A suitable firing pin to measure from or a very detailed drawing would be definitely needed.
It would be several weeks (I'm away for a bit) but I might be able to provide measurements if you go this route.
Cheers

Thanks Jaguar, your correct I had the terminology wrong and that is the info I needed.
A buddy has a lathe so I'll get him to at least turn the pin for me and go from there.
No hurry, when you get the time PM me and I'll get some measurements.
As always take care --- John
