Morning troops, I'm looking for some "end user" feedback on these ultrasonic cleaners, the 30L has caught my attention. The reviews, $ and shipping cost is pretty reasonable. However I'm just looking for some comments if you own one? any issues? quality etc. Thanks in advance.

I own one. Works great for carbs and gun parts.

Be careful if you have coated firearms,

And heed the warnings about manually turning off the heater every time.

I have had mine boil over.

Thanks, quick question, they have several different models in the 30L capacity, (ie) "professional" etc, and while they all seem to have similar features and power etc, did you find any "real" differences? When you were shopping? And as a mater of personal preference, did you choose the digital over the knob style set up?
Thanks, let me know your feelings on ownership? worth the cost? etc

I went digital and 6L but have seen the 30L as well.

I went 6 as I didn't need more than that as I was cleaning small parts, carburetors, tools, etc.

Generally they just have a few extra transducers, but they don't really have any more power.

6L is a good balance.

For me it made a lot of sense just because of the jobs I needed one for, and I love it for that.

It is a loud and unpleasant sound, but that's the nature of the device.

Buy good cleaning solution, and enjoy the flexibility of being able to throw parts in and have them done in 20 or 30 minutes.

Also... do lots of tests on any sensitive parts you want to clean.

Pretty sure most, if not all of these units come from China.

Here's an old thread from when I first was interested in a ASC.

Did my research, ended up with a 15L unit that has manual heat and timer controls.
4 years ago it was just under $300. See now they're jumped up in price a bit.

15L Ultrasonic Carburetor Cleaner $813.38 Yikes !

How's it been working for ya? I don't think the 'China" thing is a "deal breaker" at least not for me.

Still working just fine!!
The 15L size seems about right. (do small engine parts too)
I don't fill it all with cleaning solution, just water. If it's been sitting for awhile not in use.
I use hot water from my wtr htr. (140°F).
Parts are in appropriate size container or plastic freezer bags full of cleaning solution, kerosene or acetone.

Looked at the digital ones, wanted one with a mechanical times.

I got one a year or so ago - mostly to clean up elder rifle actions and parts - I would suggest to look for information about the basket size - what size parts will go in there - versus the volume of the tub - not typically how they are advertised - I got one that is advertised as 3 Litre - basket is sort of flat and wide - I can just barely get a Mauser 98 action submerged in it. A buddy got one with two or three times the volume - 6 or 9 litre - but his tubs were more like "square" shape - could not get stuff that he wanted to clean to fit in there. For our purposes, it seems the basket dimensions are more important than the "volume" - but your mileage will vary with your use of it ...

For what it is worth - this owners manual says it only wants to see one layer of items in the basket - so not supposed to "pile things up" and expect to get same performance - also has warning to not allow items to touch the walls or bottom of the tub - why the size of the basket that hangs inside is rather important.

And I will endorse that "put stuff in plastic bag" mentioned above - I had some parts that soaked overnight in a solvent stuff (Ed's Red recipe with Acetone), that bag did not leak - so I dropped that bag into the hot water in the Ultrasonic and ran it through a couple cycles - I think in not very long time, I vented (burbed) that bag to let some kind of vapours out. All the gunk and grunge was left behind in the bag, which got tossed - water and tub stayed clean.

I have a much smaller one, three litres. Works fine for small part etc, etc. The complaints in online reviews seem to be about two things, the heater dying very quickly, and the noise. Mines noisy, and still heats.

Everything is made in China today. Things are also made to a price point. I would bet units stamped Hornady or Lyman are also made there. Just to a different price point and quality level.

Thanks troops, all very good detailed answers with real experience. My take away, is that bigger is better (if you have the real estate) I think I'll set mine up on one of those PA carts that I grabbled on sale. The garage should ensure that the noise doesn't annoy too many people. I've been using sonic tanks for firearms for the last decade, and I'm not sure I could get by without one. Cheers
