Vickers & Lewis

.
Way back when you were regarded as responsible enough to actually own a machine gun, there were quite a few Lewis and other guns imported into Canada. In 1962, at a Brantford Gun Show, I bought a complete cased Lewis Gun, lots of spare parts included, spare barrel, anti-aircraft sights, and five drum magazines for $65. Many rounds went through it.

Apparently this batch came from Ireland, as the Irish upgraded to the Bren Gun. When the Regiment went to the Ranges, we took the Lewis along, and almost everyone wanted to fire it.

I still have several Lewis (and Vickers) manuals in my library, and recently came across a canvas two drum belt pouch while clearing out the house.

I should not have sold it, but many moves have been made since. The Lewis has gone down the road, like an unfired Savage 1928 Thompson, several Stens including a Mark I, Japanese Nambu, German MP-38, and MP-40, and others.

Just a small add. Saw a 800 round Lewis magazine at the pattern room at Leeds many years ago.
No, that's NOT a typo!
It was the size of snare drum! Used on merchant ships in WW2 for AA duties
