Victorian Era milsurp show and tell

Thanks, I almost didn't have these firearms. When I was about 5, my grandmother donated everything to a local museum. (Including medals, trophies and personal effects) But with a year of letter writings and meetings, I was able to get everything back.

I am glad to hear that! Although the museum may have actually put the items on display, the majority of museum acquisitions end up collecting dust (or worse, if climatic conditions aren't carefully monitored) in the back storeroom! (I served nine years on the Board of our local museum, ending my time as Chairman, and unfortunately know whereof I speak .....)

They had the items on display for about 6 months after they recieved the collection, then away to "less then ideal" storage for 10 years or more before I got them back.

Thanks for all your insight, I always enjoying learning about this time period. I never had someone explain the Henry rifling to me that way before, makes sense now.

(Sorry for high jacking the thread, let see some more victorian era beauties)

It's a cool thread, with beautiful guns, exactly as I like them.

But can anybody tell me why Claven 2, the OP of this thread, did get banned?

I always thought that he is a valuable member of this site, and a great source of knowledge.

I'm in on this thread, though a piker compared to others as I only have the "common" examples.

Canadian Snider II* - marked to the 36th Peel Battalion of Infantry

Canadian-marked Martini-Henry Mk III - marked (oddly and not necessarily authentically) to the 90th Battalion (Winnipeg Rifles)

And just sneaking in under the wire as a Victorian...

1896-dated Canadian MLE Mk I (no star) - only a stand of arms number on the butt tang, no regimental. (must get a better picture of this one)

I would have to agree, he was a valuable member here.

Here are some vitorian era milsurps in use (sorta). I pressume they pictures were taken at Kingston On. durring training. It is the 46th Durham battalion. (My Great great grandfather has the check above him)

First picture here you can see they are still equipt with the Snider.

Second Picture here you can see they have been issued the MLE rifles, (Picture would have been taken 1896 to 1900)
