I love the layout of the Yamato. A real shame to see such a beauty taken out, but aircraft from carriers ended the reign of battleships for main engagements at sea.

There is an idea out there the P40 was inferior. It was in fact used until the end of WWII & recieved continuous upgrades regardless.

Ernest Hemingway was wounded during this battle. The two Italian soldiers standing next to him were said to have been killed.

This is a 1959 reenactment of one of the actions. Searching for real footage sounds like a trip down a rabbit hole. . .

I suppose most people here have at least heard of the Swedish sailing warship Vasa. The ship sank after sailing roughly 1,300 m (1,400 yd) into her maiden voyage on 10 August 1628.

Fast forward to 1940 in Portugal and they build a replica of a Nau(Portuguese name for a Carrack.) For their Worlds Fair. The Nau's name was "Portugal"
