Hey all, what is that little backpack/camera system used often in IPSC videos? If anyone has a link to the specs and price/availability, I would appreciate it.

Hi,
I have an external camera attached to my ear muff and I use it for more than a year with DVD like picture quality with the Samsung DivX Camcorder. I can record on high quality on a 2Gb SD Micro card about 1 hour. And the Camcorder is small and thin so it can be carried in the breast pocket or attached to your belt. And it goes unnoticed... :pirate:

As far as I know there is two main way for capturing video....the first way(like Saul Kirsch)...were you mount a small camera is mounted on the headset or ball cap, and were the recorder...like a Archos (BestBuy)is wore on the belt....this way no battery pack is required....like a normal camera more then one battery might be required for a big match....:runaway:

The hosercam utilise a small camera mounted in the ear defender(no longer providing protection)a small transmitters is mounted inside the cup so is the camera.....the receiver is located away perhaps in your gun bag with a fair size battery(for the receiver), and a normal camera that has connection for outside source....:cool:

The Archos is now affordable so are the small color cam....this might be the way to go but there is some weight associate with this system.:D
 
I went on e-bay and bought a small colour ccd camera with mono sound and transmitter for 50.00 shipped and hooked the receiver up to a camcorder... it's extremely close to the hosercam but without the high cost of the brand name... I get about 100-200 feet range indoor and outdoor and about 25 feet indoor through walls... if you have an old pair of ear defenders and a camcorder that will allow video pass through this is definitely a cheap option for you and quality (in my case anyway can't speak for them all) is definately very good... no need to spend an arm and a leg on this if you have time and are somewhat mechanically inclined you can set up a wireless 2.4mhz video system for under 100 easily
 
Thanks all for the links and suggestions. Just trying to make the upcoming Winter a little more interesting is all. Might be good for the sport here in Manitoba if we can post some videos using that kind of technology on our provincial website. Also, when we do black badge courses, the new guys might find it interesting to have a little video that can be e-mailed to them to show others. Just a thought.

The red green solution

I bought a coleman hikers head lamp from walmart. Removed the light and screwed my digital camera to it.

It was an 8 buck solution to your problem.
 
jasonburnsdundee, i see your left eye dominant and right handed. i have the same problem.

the samsung camera is really small. the camera lens is almost 4 inches longs. 1.5 inches in girth. the lense can tilt 90 degrees either way to get horizontal right.

the camera itself is the size of a pack of kingsize smokes. wieghs slightly more than the lens.

there is a cord that connects the two. with the one button on the cord you can start/stop a recording. also turn on and off the system. the button has a blue/red led. shows on/off and recording or not.

stock battery is goos for about 1 1/2 hours. 2gig card is good for an hour of film on max settings.

i was going to get the hoser cam, but the system costs the same, but you still need to buy a video camera for it. besides i can't shoot my rifle with ear muffs. they come off my head when i get a good check weld.
 
Jason, you'll get a lot better recoil control for follow up shots if you ride the thumb safety with your right hand thumb. (Ie. "High thumb grip")
 
Ok so, I ended up getting that camera 7.62mm mentioned from best buy, they had a unit that was opened but unused for $450 so hey why not!?
In any case I decided to use it at the IPSC Alberta Qualifier 6.

Camera is great, just sits on top of your head on a strap, did not even feel it or notice it at all unless someone pointed it out or I was to go turn it on. I just ran the cable down my shirt and cut a little hole out the back with it going into my back pocket. Had the clip on my shirt so I can make sure it was recording. Only time the cable snagged was when I took my belt off and forgot I had it on...
