Is vintage ammo something that people collect ? I just recently obtained a large batch of ammo in a lot . I bought it for a couple of hard to find calibers that I shoot . There are lots of other ammo that I do not shoot such as 45-70 , 12 gauge and 8x57 . Most of this stuff dates from the 30's , 40's and 50's as far as I can tell . I realize that shipping it away is not feasible. Is it worth keeping ?

IMO, unless they seem to be 'poorly stored' ie, possible damp-looking I'd say the ammo should be OK to fire. I've used some that old - 50s-ish. And I've been shooting SKS ammo from the 60s that's been sitting around my house for 10-15 yrs.

Value is subjective. Pristine full retail boxes will fetch high prices from (some) collectors. Military surplus in or out of brown paper wrapping is mostly plinking ammo. There is a thread here for Cartridge Collecting; You might want to post some photos there to get more specific estimates.

Any vintage 12ga I get eventually gets shot up boxes I keep when I get them but ammo gets used. Love old CIL/IVI ammo last gunshow scored a full box of imperial lead BB and a big bag of Canuck lead number 2’s handy for the yotes and foxes. It’s still everywhere and I see it this way it was made to be shot theirs some I probably wouldn’t just for collecting sake.
