My dad has one of the old M16's .... (Not the M16A1.... but just M16)
He has actually been talking about selling it if there is any one that is collecting.

(Need to have your prohib though) <Cant recall what level of prohib as I cant get mine> :D

It would either be 12(2) or 12(3) depending if it's semi or FA at the present time.

Watching that video makes a fellow wonder why it was not adopted by the US ARMY??? I especially like the rapid conversion to belt-feed.

It came around at about the same time as the Army was trying to save weight on ammo, so the thing got redesigned for the "new" cartridge, had a few bugs worked out in the process, and became the AR15 which was eventually adopted as the M16. The M14 was already in the inventory by the time the AR10 came about, and since every soldier was already familiar with the Garand and wouldn't require retraining, the initial decision was a no-brainer.

I would guess its a politics thing. Also, I would imagine old standards prevented it from being adopted, it really was a rifle ahead of its time. Also, I think the M-14 was adopted pretty recently at the time the AR-10 was introduced, so, that probably helped kill the AR-10 with the US army.
