Hello,

I've recently come across a vintage Breda "long action" shotgun...very similar to the original FN/Browing Auto 5 and the Franchi 48 AL. From the barrel markings, it appears to be 1956 vintage (Italian date stamp: XII). I can only get 2 rounds in the magazine tube. A factory Breda owner's manual from 1961 indicates that the tube should hold 4 rounds. I have yet to attempt to remove the tube from the receiver, nor have I attempted to remove the end cap to see what's going on. Thought I'd ask on here first in case anyone has any knowledge.

Cheers,

R

There is a magazine plug in there. Some of the guns actually have a rod welded to the inside of the magazine cap in lieu of the plug

Thanks, 1963beretta. I'll have to investigate further. If mine has the plug (vs. the welded rod) and I remove it, I'm wondering if the spring would then be too short? In the same factory owner's manual, I saw that Breda offered a 2-round extension, but I suppose finding one of those (and a longer spring) would be like finding a needle in a haystack.

The spring in the mag wont be short. The plug is installed to be compliant for hunting where there is a three max capacity.

As for the mag extension, you likely wont find the one that you see in the owners manual. You may get lucky and find something from another type of shotgun that may fit.
