I know this is really a thread for the "Ammo" forum, but I think it would be appreciated more here.

Co-worker gave me these the other day. Boxes are 1/2- 3/4 full.

Cool. I can remember my dad emptying his model 12 on a big southern ontario jack rabbit with Canuck #2's. He promptly went to the hardware store and bought Imperial Special Long Range in AAA. That stopped jacks quick. The time would have been about 1968. Thanks for the memories with that pic post.

My neighbour gave me a old box of shells he had lying around his basement not to long ago. The were paper hulls with ducks on them. I think they were branded "Winfield" or something like that.

I first cut my teeth shooting CIL paper shells at waterfowl, mainly those orange coloured Canuck Heavy 5's and 6's. My old man also shot the purple Imperial Long Range and at times Maxums as well. Plastic shells weren't common in my life until the mid 70's as my dad always had a sizable stash of ammo on hand. Still remember the delicious odor the spent paper shells on a cool October morning in the marsh. The Winchester Super X stuff was also manufactured in Canada back when Winchester had a manufacturing plant in Southern Ontario. Firearms were produced as well.

NOTHING smells better than opening a fresh box of paper shotgun ammo. A very distinct smell that you can't forget. My Dad and I spent many a great day together hunting and I will never forget that smell.

Shot-up lots of both kinds back in the day ... still miss the C.I.L. "Imperials",
and although I used lots of them in paper, those dark purple plastic ones
with lead 4's were just the "bbe's knees" for waterfowl !

I was goose Hunting a couple years ago and I noticed my buddy was dropping geese like crazy. After a barrage of shooting, I looked over near his ground blind and saw blue high brass shells laying around. Good ol' Imperial "special long range" #2! Like magic!

I still hunt with old Cannucks ,Super X and CIL paper shells I pick up here and there for upland game, real funny looks you get when you eject a couple paper hulls, cheers Dale Z!
