Hopefully my co-organizers won't get angry at me letting the cat out of the bag early but car is packed and I'm excited to be headed to Cowtown to join Cowtown Bill & Friends at our first Vintage Guns Display & Shoot being held at AHEIA Calgary Firearms Centre.

We decided to keep this first event on the downlow and by invite only to gauge the response we'd get and to not find ourselves overwhelmed trying to organize an event that may be bigger than we were prepared for off the hop.

To gauge by the response we've received pre-event by invited attendees and a few other collectors and shooters we've spoken with our feedback suggests there is alot of interest in such a fun event.

For now I'll just post the invite we sent out as an idea of some of our itinerary.

Tomorrow is event day. We'll keep you posted with pics to follow.

Thanks, Frank.
The weather looks good and we are locked and loaded.

I suspect that it's a rule imposed due to reload time for 25 shots in a muzzle loader when there are other shooters waiting to use the field.
It says no black powder guns can be used - not no muzzleloading guns can be used.
A breechloading gun using black powder cartridges is not going to slow down a round of trap.

We aren't going to argue with them. They club was extremely accommodating. The staff was extremely helpful. They moved picnic tables, brought out extra folding tables and chairs, dedicated two trap fields to use no questions asked and RENT FREE! Just pay for targets at MEMBERS rates! They continually came over to ask if we needed anything. One fellow in particular was really interested and was checking out the displays and when inquired about one of my guns I told him to feel free to shoot it and he did and was all smiles afterward. He couldn't believe we'd invite him to try out our guns.

Its the clubs rules and everybody was having a great time with lots of laughs. We weren't there to turn it into a "we don't like your black powder rules s _ _ t show!

There is a reason we started out by invite only and reading these comments about arguing the clubs rules well it may just end up remaining a by invite only to avoid some grumpy SOB ruining the day for everyone because he can't get along with one simple rule.

We had a pretty good first venture with 16 people attending and displaying some absolutely beautiful guns.

It was nice to meet another CGN'r, Patrick and put a face to the username Victory XC. Patrick donated a few very nice printed certificates he designed and made for the event. He made a best novice certificate and top gun for the trapshooting portion of the event as well as a 2026 voters choice gun of the year award. A friend of Cowtown Bills and his wife Sandra had a good friend make and donate a beautiful polar bear quilt for a draw prize.

We did a bit of trapshooting, took lots of pictures, swapped stories of guns on display, shared some treats a couple folks provided and shared histories of our guns when asked if we knew them.

I'll post some more pics once we get them organized and sorted out but here are a couple for now.

And here is one probably not seen on a trap field in a number of decades. A squad of shooters with three of the five man squad shooting Ithaca 4E Knicks. Left to right Cowtown Bill with his 4E, yours truly(The Spank) with his 4E, Victory XC(not sure which of his SxS's he was shooting), Dave with a borrowed 4E and Brian shooting a Model 21 Trap.
