Vintage hunting ammo find

My grandfather owned a lever action 38-55 in the late 1930's south of Big River, Sask., east of the Bodmin hills in the Ladder Valley district. According to my dad, neighbours would come by to borrow the "big rifle" when they went out to get their moose. I am sure most people today would consider it pretty anemic, but compared to the 25-20's, 38-40's and 44-40's of the day, it was considered "big medicine".

Do not put tape or stickers on those boxes and don’t handle them with dirty hands. I would recommend wrapping them in Saran Wrap. Condition is everything and those boxes look pristine.

I must be vintage myself. I remember when those were in the stores and at home. My dad shot a .22 Hornet.

I see it at gun shows sometimes .. There is one in renfew the 2 nd and 3rd of March and a big one in perth each year also

There are usually always a few boxes of 32 Rem. kicking around, plus loose rounds, at the Woodstock,ON gunshow I attend on a regular basis. The last boxes I saw were old Dominion brand at 60.00 apiece and loose rounds were 3.00 to 4.00 each if my fuzzy memory is correct.
The next show is this Sunday Jan27/19 by the way, just wanted to mention that.

I guess I am too, I still own and shoot 2 .22 Hornets.

I have my father's .22 Hornet now. He would have one of those boxes of CIL cartridges around for years; shoot two or three a year, bring two or three deer home, then save the rest for the next year. It was when I begged him to let me shoot it that he went through the ammo and had to buy more.
