I, need some help with identifying Carl Zeiss Jena Marineglas(this is how it is spelled) 6x.

The serial number is 182751 and from my quick research they were made in 1909(I think) but if anyone has more knowledge, I would appreciate if you shared it with me.

I will post pics once I get home.

I just bought them for $15.00 in a small second hand store in SW Ontario. Very good condition if you ask me, no scratches on lenses etc.

Thanks,

I cant tell if the lenses are 'coated' .... from the photo's the ocular appears coated but the objectives maybe not, If they are coated lenses then their production was much later than 1909. Late 1930's at least.

Regardless, be particularly gentle when cleaning them...older optics can be scratched very very easily, You may wish to use a blower first followed by a very gentle dusting with a very soft brush then lens tissue with a touch of lens cleaning fluid and finishing with a clean soft piece of chamois.

There is no reason why these shouldnt provide a great image if they havent been knocked about subject to some flaring in certain light conditions

Thanks, AP

There is no coating on the lenses. Lenses are not misaligned, they are very clear, crisp image and I am amazed how good they image is.

The serial number shows they were produced in 1909 but I have to do more investigating about these binos and that is why any help is appreciated.

They look lovely, enjoy them.

It is symptomatic of communism that when the Wall fell and companies were looking at which companies were salvagable after 70 years of Soviet commie insanity, even legendary Zeiss Ikon could not make the grade as they were, in their immediate post commie state.
