I have long been fascinated by vintage submachine guns. My favourites are some of the WW1 and interwar subguns, ones made before expedience of manufacture and low cost became priorities.
If I could have any gun in the world it would be a steyr-soluthurn s1-100 (aka mp-30 or mp-34-O), often called the rolls royce of submachine guns.
Other subguns I would trade a testicle for would include the italian mab-38 (perforated barrel jacket version), the mp-28, the kp-31 suomi, and the erma emp.
Obviously I cannot have any of these in proper, original spec, but I am curious about semi automatic versions that are legal and available in Canada. I would ideally like something NR, as I do not think shooting ranges will be available to me in the future, being an unvaxxed plague rat.

Tnw does the m31 Suomi
They did a ppsh 41 but not sure if any made it in to Canada
Gsg did a re make of the mp 40
There was a sten available years ago can’t remember who made it

Supposedly they are sitting in a dealer warehouse somewhere, not sure about the details... I imported one for myself...

Just avoid. It's soooo not even close to the real thing except from a distance that it's just a huge disappointment.

There are Sterling police SMG's in semi-auto that exist in Canada. I've seen two pop up here (maybe the same one, who knows) over the last decade that was restricted for barrel length.

Theres a semi auto PPSH41 at Wanstalls, it has the American style 16" barrel and shroud is extended so it looks a little silly. Restricted amd priced under $2,500

can you give more insight on the GSG MP-40?
I was close to getting one but the 5rd was the deal breaker for me.

Just too many differences with the original - there's only at best a superficial external resemblance.

Now I do have a mp40 safe queen so it's a bit easier for me to sneer at the GSG... but even if I did not, it would still hurt to have something this fake...

The TNW PPSh though uses a lot of original parts that have been modified to make it a closed bolt semi auto (and a newly manufactured receiver) so it's an easier pill to swallow.

I couldn't find it just now but that would be the TNW made one (Or rather they were made by MGS for TNW and it is marked so). Is it really still there? I'm planning on cutting down the shroud on mine to regular length and making a 18.6 barrrel - if it's going to look silly, might as well look silly.

OP did start this thread referring to reproductions of vintage pre - WW2 guns. The TNW M31 would seem to be about the only one, all repro Thompson guns being named prohibs.

I am looking for something very similar,an older design of wood and steel and if it is heavy, so be it. Trick is i want the 7.62 x 25 and for range leisure.I heard there were a few kicking around and even in a sterling carbine but am still looking.I am also on other sites and got a reply saying just "i got one" and no follow up...
