Virden Mb. "Meet and Greet" and Shoot

good guy diopter!!! that mount is quite nice, ive only 2 scoped rifles, but since ive started with milsurps im starting to prefer the open sights, my 1889 shot crazily well at the 300 yard gong, and the sights you have set up on that running deer rifle buffdog are so nice, it was an excellent rifle to shoot, i can only wish i was closer to that range, id love to be out there every weekend!

Nic, you 1889 Schmit shot well because I loaded up special "gong seeking" ammo for you!

Here's my question; how many pairs of grannie drawers did it take to clean the 25mm?:p

Probably a lot less than I can remember using with the 25 Pounder or the 105 Howitzer, and much less than you have used over the years!;)

You are probably going to have to ask that question of the "low man on the Totem Pole" at Wolverine. Having that much fun, I kind of wondered why John let some of the other Wolverine people fire it. I think you may have hit on the answer --"You were the last one to fire it, so you can clean it!":D

I have to hand it to John though - he does share his Toys well with other people.

@ PURPLE:

I have no idea how many it took to clean the GUN, but there sure were a few extra sets of dirty ones after it went off the first time.

That little sucker is LOUD!

I rilly, rally, really, Really, REALLY want one!

And a Deuce-and-a-half full of ammo........

I was so impressed with Johns shooting skill. Off hand @ 300 yards with a Henri martini he was so close to hitting the gong! Very impressive!

Thanks for the complement, I just imagined I was back on the Vedlt and that gong was a Zulu Induna leading an impi, I wanted to take at least one with me! Strange but in 2 weeks I will once again be walking over those old battlefields, sadly with a GPS in my pocket not a Martini Henry over my shoulder. I plan to make the walk from Isandlwana to Fugitives Drift, really looking forward to it.

Nic glad I could help out with the ammo bud! I'm glad they shot fairly well as I had no previous time to work up loads for your rifle.

Cant help but feel left out as I'm the only one who doesn't own a swiss rifle!!

Damn, I got to stop hanging out with you guys!
My "rifles I need to own" list keeps growing.

Now it reads: Zulu, martini,Swed Mauser, Swiss, m91 carcano, berthier and of course a real musket of some sort!!

Along these lines my uncle, who was never a bullsh#tter with me, once told me about being strafed by a FW190 at some time in NW Europe. There was a Brit light AA unit equipped with 40mm Bofors guns right next to them which failed to engage the German aircraft. After it flew off unscathed they went over to ask these Brits why they hadn't engaged it. The reply was that they had just finished cleaning their guns and didn't want to go through it again...... This resulted in some harsh words and a bit of a sh@t-kicking for a couple of the more mouthy Brits.
