I have used the Brownells upper receiver action block kit (ht tp://www.brownells.com/gunsmith-tools-supplies/rifle-tools/bench-vise-blocks/ar-15-m16-upper-receiver-action-block-prod22385.aspx) to install barrels on literally dozens of receivers and have never had a problem. The main thing is to have a sturdy vise to mount it into and don't forget to use the bolt carrier insert to prevent crushing of the upper receiver.
