I will be visiting Ottawa in October where I will be spending time in the National Archives and the National War Memorial Museum. Are there any other places I could go that are small arms related? My main interest is British/Commonwealth small arms.

Ditto for Montreal. Thank you.

Set an entire day aside for the War Museum in Ottawa.

Don't expect to see much on display sadly, most is locked away downstairs. The museum is seriously lacking artifacts on display, most space is wasted with graphics and text. Still a worthwhile stop, but it would be nice if visitors could see more of the collection (which is epic, but buried away).

There is a display at the old fort on St. Helens island (Isle Ste. Helene if you prefer). They also have musket drills 17th/16th century French, British . I would check the operating dates.

The AFV collection is mostly out for display and definitely worth a thorough look.

Go to the citadel in Quebec City. You will see a mint north American arms colt 1911

You will also see very nice fully functional FG42 rifles in early and later version. Also other very nice fully functional German war firearms. All behind thick glass mind you.
