Vltor A5 Stock System

A5 on my two ARs with the 6.0oz buffers, the 14.5 mid bbl feels like shooting a 22, and the 11.5 bbl shoots like a baby. lol

Got mine from the shooting center. They didn't have black, so I got tan and dyed it. They might have black back in stock by now.

A5 system, 10.3" barrel. Shoots very smooth.

I am considering the buffer tube and buffer system itself for my 16" middy that is already a pussy cat to shoot. Could be fun to push the limits of softness while maintaining reliability....

Brownells sell just the RE and Buffer with spring if you want without the stock., but any rifle spring will be fine, one of my A5 has a the Green Sprinco action spring. I find the 6.oz much nicer for my 11.5 and 14.5 mid. The 7 position RE is designed and best for the full size stock( Emod, ACS ACS-L), while the 6 position is intended for the compact size-IMOD, CTR,STR

Just picked one up for my 18" mid length (in black from CSC). Improvement over the plain A2 stock for sure. Really happy with the purchase, well worth it as the recoil, combined with the muzzle brake, wasn't much more than a 22. Found it to be really smooth.

I think it certainly made a difference in slowing down the bolt so recoil is not as violent and it got rid of the spring noise. I shot it next to my friend's completely factory 6920 and his sight picture definitely jumps quite a bit compare to mine with A5 + PWS FSC556 on 16" barrel with carbine gas system.

Just ordered a second kit from CSC as well.

I've got the A5 on my 18" middy. Its good stuff.
My 18" has an adjustable gas block, but its super soft with the A5. To me I'd say as or more gentle then then a 20" rifle length system with an A2 stock.
The VLTOR stock is also super comfy and the cheek weld is great. I've not had any beard hair problems either.

I was thinking getting one (the tube and buffer) for my MK18 as I'll eventually build me a MK12 upper and if I understand correctly, the A5 is made to be reliable no matter what gas/barrel you pair it with.
What I don't get is if that is the case, why the different buffer weight? If you have to switch buffer when you switch upper I might as well stick to the standard tube and do that... I fail to see the advantage here. Enlighten me people.

The word is TUNE, Before I was using the std. buffer 5.3oz for my 11.5 and 14.5 mid, switched to 6.0oz and like it better. The A5 uses a longer tube and different buffer lenght and weight and rifle spring. For my rifle lenght bbl. will be using the 4oz buffer.

So you can tune it better than a Milspec tube? What buffer should work best in a 10.3" DD MK18?
the MK12 upper is still just a tough at this point... I still have a couple mods for the MK18 and the ACR that should have priority.

For the Mk18, I would go with 6oz. As mentioned above even my 14.5 middy runs like a baby with the 6oz, If you get the A5 as a complete system( package) it comes with their std. buffer which is the 5.3oz..The standard buffer works perfect but 6oz is just my personnal prefererence after some trial and error. some A5 user keep the std. buffer but went with the EXTRA POWER rifle SPRING.( sprinco green or JP). Goes back again to your choice. In general your good with the A5

There is a company in the states that makes Buffers for the Vltor A5's, not 100% on this but I beleive its called "Heavy Buffers" company. Lots of of option on the weights.
