Hey guys,

I have a Vltor Casv-14 hanguard/rail mounted on my Norinco M305. One of the contact/mounting spots for the rail on the rifle is a clamp around the barrel shank in the grooves ahead of the receiver ring. The black screw (the only screw) on the left side (when looking down the barrel) which tightens this clamp has sheared/broke off.

I've talked to Vltor and they are able to send me a replacement...but 5 bucks for the screw and $20+ for shipping.

Does anyone have advice on how to deal with this problem without spending $25+ on a single screw?

Thanks
Ben

I'd just spend 30 bucks... Meaning buy 2 LOL
Nothing beats OEM hardware in this situation. Let Vltor send you the right unit (er 2 I mean, cause ya just never know)

As the expert mentioned, don't screw around (no pun intended). You spent alot of $ on that rail system, $30 shipped for 2 pieces of the right hardware is reasonable.

I'm assuming that shipping cost is for sending the screw from somewhere in the US to Nova Scotia. I don't live very far off from the border. For items like this, the shipping cost difference between shipping them to an address just across the border can be dramatic. I pay about $12 per year to have a US address to receive packages and then I pay $2.50 per package received. More than often the shipping savings on a first package alone makes up for these charges.

Bringing your items back across the border is very simple. I just tell the border guard that I went over to pick up a purchase I did online. I show them the item and they ask for the value, so I show them the invoice. They will not give you any grief for a $5 screw nor try to make you pay taxes. And they won't care about the screw being part of a gun stock. At least that has been my experience in similar situations.

I had the same problem a couple years back, vltor would not send the screw because of itar regulations.
Ended up selling the thing to a fellow nuts that was willing to try his luck and bought the m14.ca handguard.

Lost quite a bit of money in that deal.
