Hello Fellow Nuts,

I have a Vltor stock and handguard (don't ask me how). I have been trying to install in on my Norinco. I have run into some problems, and if the rifle wasn't with my gunsmith, I'd include pictures. I cannot securely afix the handguard to the rifle without it twisting - so it isn't sitting level - when tightened. On the right side of the handguard, there is a notch, and I can onlt presume that the rear part of the barrel (right above the op rod) has some type of groove that the Norinco does not have. Hopefully this makes sense. I am looking at some creative fixes, but any suggestions are appreciated.

Yeah, I know that Vltor in conjunction with Springfield have all M14's shipped to them to have the handguard installed by them. Undoubtedly, there's some kind of magic going on in their shop. So, I was simply wondering, has anyone compared the two versions - Norinco v. Springfield, and is Norinco an exact replica?

You may have to remove /loosen your gas cylinder assy to slide your hand guard on the barrels are identical in profile with all the correct groves

Maybe some pics would help determine what is wrong.

I know the Vltor stocks are TIGHT. It takes a fairly concerted effort on my part to lock the trigger assembly into place.

Have your gunsmith... or yourself..... take a close look to be sure the barrel is indexed correctly. This is done by checking that the splineways (grooves) that the gas assembly and flash hider mount to, are aligned at top dead center to the receiver.
many norcs have had mostly minor to slightly excessive barrel indexing issues.
With a tight tolerance stock and accessory fit such as the Vltor with handguard rail..... an out of index barrel could be the culprit here, it may explain the tilting/twisting you mention.

check it and let us know

Thanks Doc (in a strictly non Bugs Bunny way),

I will have it looked at tomorrow, hopefully that does the trick!
