Been meaning to change my AR carbine stock for something better that doesnt rip the hair off my face or rattle around. I like the Vltor carbine club foot stock but for the price Im wondering if I should just wait for the new magpul UBR (dont like the look of the ctr) The magpul is obviously superior but its also going to be 70$+ more then the vltor...

Yeah I am waiting for the UBR>.. its gonna be the best one yet.. supposively end of November now.

if you have a beard of goatee the VLTOR grabs it...

The only way to ensure a conventional stock (VLTOR, CRANE/LMT, CTR etc.) does not gran the hair is to tape the stock and the tube (then not open or close it).

Even the UBR and M93 will grab facial hair.

However the worst for facial hair is the VLTOR systems due to the attachment for the battery compartments

Yeah, but WTF do you know?

Yeah but your beard saved it ;)

For those of us with facial hair -- run a 4" strip of guntape down the top of it -- it will cover the seams (other than the stock/buffer tube gap)

Ok Im gonna get the Vltor only because I dont wanna wait for the magpul and the magpul stock is going to be a lot more for the 1st few months its out...

If its suicide bomber proof it gets my ok!

Guess ill just have to stop being lazy and shave

For those without facial hair... VLTOR is HOW much inferior to MagPul? Is it in terms of design? or build quality? I was lead to believe that VLTOR products are quite high up in terms of quality. Is something wrong with them, or are you guys saying MagPul products are just that much better...?

Not worse - just different.

I ran a VLTOR in Afghanistan on my C8SFW. It fits the Colt/Diemaco milspec stocks on C8/M4's with no issues.

I prefer the M93 series since they are more robust - however most units draw the line at adding it to the weapons.

The Magpul CTR, VLTOR, and Crane stocks are an upgraded stock to fit on the issue tube. However the M93 and UBR are a different animal.

I know people who like one more than the other -- I have all of the above (except the UBR) - I tend to prefer the M93 -- but dont feel let down by any of the others.
Its the nice thing about a modular system...

Oh, good. I just prefer the simpler approach in engineering and design, and VLTOR looked liked what I'm looking for, in that regard. Of course, M93 looks good, too, and I've seen many of photos of soldiers in the field using it (as well as yours, Kevin :)), so there's merit there.
I think I'll just have to get both. Cause, when in doubt... :)

He is a comparisson pic (sorry my LMT/Crane's are elsewhere and the new lower has not cleared CFC yet..)

The VLTOR was a green that was painted tan for Afghan -- then painted black to fit on a black gun..

Some of the features that I do not like with the VLTOR stock when compared to the Magpul M93B:-
-the VLTOR's cheek rest is the moveable part when adjusting; on the Magpul the cheek rest is static, the underside of the stock moves when adjusting. Not a BIG deal, but it is a detectable change to me.
-the VLTOR stock's upper surface has a ridge at the front of the adjustable section...this always seems to find my cheekbone. On the Magpul, the entire upper surface is "flat"...no ridges.
-The VLTOR did not feel as solid as my Magpul.

Thank you, Kevin, for the pics. M96 does look more substantial than other two. Maybe LMT/Crane would compare more favorable with it, I suppose? I think VLTOR's main attraction is that you can put different size cheek pad on it, to change profile of the stock, but maybe it's not as versatile as I thought it would be.
Just a quick question. I see on M96 or VLTOR that back of these stocks are angled inward, to help shooter perhaps? But on Crane stock, it's almost vertical. Any thoughts on this?

The CRANE has a fixed rubber pad the others do not.

The pad allows for solid contact even at angles that are not ideal. The others changed the geometry to try to fit best into the "shoulder" of shooters.

IF you dont shoot in Tac gear - the geometery of the other stocks may not be ideal, and you may appreciate the LMT/Crane more.

I've sprayed rubberized rocker panel guard on the end of my Magpul M93's to give better grip on nylon.

I've shot with the Magpul M93, Magpul CTR (pics up later in the week), Crane, Vltor (clubfoot, carbine and the fixed ones) Colt M4, Colt M4 Waffle (the one above) and some others.

I would have to say it is personal preference, how you shoot, what you wear when you shoot -- and how much you want to spend.

Operationally I've run the Magpul M93, VLTOR, CRANE and issue M4 stock -- I dont feel hurt by using any -- I prefer the M93 but that is me.

And I appreciate that Six Star did not like the features of what is now my vltor that I am quite pleased with.:p
