I installed a VOLQUARTSEN trigger in my stock basic Rem 597. took less then a minute and holy crap it must have shaved 7 pounds off the trigger pull. it was pulling about 10 pounds like a heavy shot gun when I bought it and now it is maybe 3 pounds. didn't have to do anything just replace the hammer. if you want a lighter trigger for under $50 go to brownells now! mine was under $35 because there was some kind of discount going on at the time.

I took it out today with my Iscope and shot some groups and tried some new reticles out and the is what I got in the first pic. second pic is with heavy trigger. My mom shot the little 5 shot group over the bottom left target and she has never shot a gun before in her life.

Are you sure its a VQ Trigger? Or a VQ hammer? VQ Extractor is also available for R 597.

sorry about that. its the hammer your right. i was just so excited to see how much it took off the trigger pull!!.

Its ok, some people cant read. I cant spell. You clearly said once you swapped the hammer it dropped the trigger weight.
Its amazing how much a 8lbs+ trigger effects movement.
Never shot a 597 but if we didnt have these silly bullpup laws, Id be buying one for a ceter balanced systems stock!

.
I installed a Volquartsen hammer in a 597 a couple of years ago, and they do make an amazing reduction in trigger pull. I also bought a VQ extractor at the time but have not installed it as mine is working perfectly and I have had no problems with the factory one. I do put several cartons of ammo through the 597 each year, mostly at Gophers.

I bought mine at Jo-Brook Firearms in Brandon, Mb.

it shoots so nice right now I am going to get a high power scope for it and see what kind of groups you can get. I am right at $250 spent on this gun including the hammer. lots of people on youtube mostly from the usa said they cant get 10 rounds in the mag and mags are crap but mine work perfect and I can get all 10 in no problem. I am really happy with this thing!

The combination would bring it below 3 pounds, making it a dangerous hair trigger would it not? Every little bump would set it off?
That's right it would be below 3lbs. I have a polished stock hammer and the Mcarbo spring and my pull is 3.7lbs which is good enough for me. It's best to do one or the other but with the spring kit you are getting a higher quality spring + aluminum bushings, lower pull weight, and increasing durability . With the VQ hammer you are just lowering the pull but some guys love to brag about there 2.2lb pull on the forums for some reason.

Ack, I ordered the spring kit only for my 22 magnum 597. I am thinking of posting all the work I did on the mags though, man they were a mess design wise.

Both rifles are sitting at 3lb with this combination. You can slam them on the floor as hard as you want and they will not discharge. My main rifle had the factory bushings split/disintergrate at around 21,000 rounds so I gambled and installed the mcarbo kit. Worked so well I added a kit to my new 597. Both rifles run like a top.
