Volquartsen summit toggle action

I Had one for a few years with a Volquartsen heavy barrel in a MDT Oryx chassis. Was a ton of fun for a gopher/plinking rifle. It was more accurate than any 10/22 I had but not as accurate as the CZ 457 MTR I replaced it with. I kind of regret selling it due to the fun factory though. It would shoot like 3/4”-1” groups at 50 yards with Lapua center x and SK LRM. With the exact same ammo I’m getting 1/2” groups with the 457.
Yeah they look fun to use that’s what also has me interested but 3-4”-1” even with expensive match ammo like at 50 yards is not great accuracy tho I’m my opinion. Even my older cz 452 with cci blazers has done 1/4” groups maybe smaller at that range. Obviously bolt action can be more accurate yet but I would hope for better accuracy than that tho at 50 yards, or atleast get the same accuracy you got but using cheaper ammo in it. With that kind of ammo I’d expect much better groups yet but they look a lot of fun tho I think my son would enjoy that action a lot
I had Mr. Volquartsen build me a Summit last year in 17HM2. Went for the heavy version which means the stainless steel receiver and stainless steel heavy Walther Lothar match barrel. Stock was a heavy classic design with cheekpiece. I wanted maximum accuracy and stayed away from carbon fibre barrels and aluminum receivers. I shoot pigeons, starlings and squirrels out to 125 yards. 1” groups at 100 yards with good ammo. With some ammo expect an occasional flyer that may open up your pattern an extra 1/2” or so but that happens with some of my other 17HM2 rifles with that ammo. My buddy ordered the exact same rifle from VQ for or upcoming gopher safari in Sask. Grab one, you will be happy.
That’s sounds accurate for sure. One review showed the 17hmr version to be really accurate as well. Maybe the 17 versions shoot a fair bit better yet. Looks like a fun one tho for gophers
I do have several other Volquartsens on the 10/22 platform, one in 22LR and the other in 17HMR. Back in the day VQ guaranteed 1/2” groups at 50 yards and they delivered. Between family and friends we have the .22Mag in SA and the center fire .223 semi. All phenomenal shooters. All my VQs visited gopher patches in Saskatchewan and served well. Any issues with the 17HMR were always traced back to ammo problems, never the rifle. But thats a whole different topic covered elsewhere. The rifles are tough and accurate !!
I have a summit with probably 5-6k through it. My brother has one too with probably a similar round count.
They aren’t target rifles. But what they are is just plain fun. My summit is the do-all rifle around the homestead. It’s shot countless coyotes, gophers and pests.
Mine has regularly been shot out to 200m on steel with no issues.
The triggers are plain nice out of the box. The toggle handle works perfectly with the magpul x-22 stock.
I did break one firing pin at around 3k rounds.
I can’t recall a time i have ever had a fail to feed or eject.
