i see no point in light charges anyway- maybe in something light but i don't have such a beast in my inventory- you have to use enough powder to drive back the slide and engage the sear, and that establishes your threshold unless you're using a revolver- the only revolvers i have are ruger redhawks in 44 mag, so i'll probably NEVER go down that road- if i'm carring a rifle it's for hunting big game anyway, or the ar for target, or 22 for gophers

Lol! Yes, I'm very familiar with weighing rounds. And yes, it doesn't work if your case is completely full. If you're filling up a 357 mag or 44 mag case with powder, that should definitely be measurable. Weighing doesn't always work when you have light charges and components that vary a lot though (sloppy lead bullets).

after you've done your initial cull , it's a simple matter to drop the slug on the scale and see exactly how "true" it really is- i've seen as much as+/_ 5 grains on both sides of the advertised weight, and the cases can vary as well- just the other day i came across a federal( somewhere around 120 grains) that was only 364 loaded- so i pulled it- and it was a no powder- went through the line again and it was 373.9- exactly what it should be- i have 2 scales- the beam for measuring the powder charge, and the electronic for measing the loaded round
