i got a muzzleloader for hunting and i will be using 777 FFFG powder , i was wondering why there is only volumetric load data for these powders. It seems to me that if the powder was weighed out it would be more accurate. the volumetric measures that iv seen seem very "mickey mouse"

i know that 777 and blackpowder use the same volumetric load about 100 grains. but i know that you cant just weigh out that in grains cuz its not the same

is there some kind of conversion table that i need?

In Sam Fadala's book "Black Powder Loading Manual" - chapter 2 - he covers this subject quite thoroughly. Basically he's saying that consistently thrown volumetric loads are just as accurate as weighed loads due to the burning characteristics of black powder.

I think you have several grains leeway and can still shoot a consistent group combined with if you pour in the measure more or less the same each time, the difference in weight is not that great. Also the pressure per grain wt of powder for black is much less and the pressure curve I think is closer to a straight line. With smokeless powder, once you get into the mid to high 40 thous psi range, the pressure curve begins to go exponential meaning that a small increase in powder equals a big increase in pressure.

Unless you measure your loads at home and put them in vial or something like that, weighting a charge while hunting won't be more accurate that measuring by volume.
