Hello, hivemind. Little advice required.

Buddy of mine mounted one of these on his Husqvarna in .308. It was sold to him as having adequate eye relief for such an application, but to get a full image in the scope, you have to snug WAY forward on the stock. Practical eye relief appears to be 1.5 to 2" at best. That's potential scope hack country.

Have any of you encountered this issue? I would consider regular eye relief to be somewhere in the neighbourhood of 4". Am I correct?

Thanks for your input,

Dan

I helped a young fellow with the same scope you describe, last spring.

He had the same issue. He couldn't adjust the focus for image/reticle sharpness unless he held his eye about 2 inches from the ocular lens.

He had vision issues that created this issue. He was very near-sighted, and had to wear different glasses for reading and viewing long distance.

His vision was bad enough that he couldn't wear "Progressive" lenses, unless they were 3 inches in diameter. His description.

He thought he would be able to adjust the ocular lens for enough clearance on his new to him Bergera 308Win.

We tried a couple of different scopes, I had on hand and none of them, even the high end models would give him more than 2.5 inches of clearance.

He went to his optometrist, who suggested getting a lens to fit over the ocular lens to get a sharp image with greater eye relief.

I had the same issue on my M77 switched to a Crossfire 4-12x44 and it fixed the issue. I had the Diamondback originally on a Ruger American which gives you options on ring location and it worked fine.

I had that exact one as well, eye relief at higher powers was non existent, small eyebox not forgiving and fuzzy around the outside - sold and replaced that one with burris fullfield and much happier.

My buddy's Huskie is a lovely old rifle, deserving of a period-correct scope. Been trying to talk him into a steel-tube Weaver with lower magnification, but he won't bite. He's abandoned the Vortex and has ordered a Hi-Lux. I understand they're a bit of a crapshoot quality-wise.

Thanks to everyone for their input.
