Looking at the diamondback to put on a .308. Thinking the 4x16 I would appreciate any thoughts and comparable scopes in that price range.

I just installed the 4-12 with BDC on my .308 varmint gun. I looked at the VX2's and the Redfield scopes as well. The optics were awesome on the Diamondback, excellent light transmission for the price even in low light. Vortex has a BDC tool on their website to help get you started. It came with an unconditional full lifetime warranty! It was $220 before tax almost opted for the AO version but it was quite a bit more. The field of view is quite good. Slightly narrower eye relief than some scopes I looked at but its over 3 inches which is just fine on my low recoil gun

I have a Vortex Crossfire II 6-24 x 50 BDC reticle - excellent scope for the money ($349 list) - worth looking at in your comparison shopping. No matter what scope you get, be sure to budget some reasonable $$$ for rings. I have seen several nice scopes at the range wearing some pretty cheap rings, which in the long run may defeat the purpose.
Happy scope shopping!

if you can afford it, jump up the to the viper 4-12x40 with the side parallax. little better glass, no issues with the AO and argon purged. plus the adjustments for magnification are a nicer set up, especially if you shoot with gloves or winter mitts on. you can see the magnification level from behind the scope without having to bring the rifle down and look on top to see where you are at.
