Greetings,
So, I have the Vortex Diamondback Tactical FFP 4-16x44mm with mil reticle.
I really like the glass, reticle and the magnification is all I need.
As you probably know, this scopes turrets do not have a "stop" when returning it to your zero point. Also, because of the internal design of the turrets, they do not move up and down as you turn them and therefore you can't use a shim as a stop.

I am using my scope on a 22lr to try and reach out to 200m and 300m. I need about 6 mil and 12 mils +/- elevation respectively (and points in between 200 & 300) to get the little projectile out that far. Each full rotation is 6 mils. The problem is, I sometime get "lost" and can't remember if I turned it back down 2 full turns or 1 turn for a shorter distance.

Do you guys that have this scope have any solutions or tricks? I guess I could just dial no more that 5 mil and hold over for the rest...?

Thanks

I marked below my turret with a fine mechanical pencil, then moved the turret up and went over it with a silver sharpie, put it back down to where it was.

That technique won't work on this scope....that's the issue. The turret spins but does NOT move up or down. Your silver sharpie line will always be in the same place.

If you have an moa rail, you can just count the turns till it bottoms out. Thatd what I do. A 30 moa rail is just over one full rotation down. I like this because I'm cheep and cand afford zero stop for all my guns. Give it a try

^^^Yep, that's what I did after Hawkrider suggested it. I have a 20moa rail, mil turrets is one full turn + .8 mils to the bottom out. That works as a solution.
Thanks!

hey im just bought into one of these scopes but a 4-12 model, ive read about this lack of zero stop, so realistically, if i put the rifle into a gun bag, an the turret catches on it, it could spin up or down, un knowingly? an then , its difficult for the shooters to know which way to click to get back to Zero? is that the gist?

hmmm i got it for a 7 rem mag

No zero stop, but you can reset the turret to the zero mark, any time you see the turret not on zero, you know it has moved. Once your zero is established, reset the turret and count until you are bottomed out, easiest way.

ey mate that makes sense an sounds great! as long as i have a 0 and a mark , im cool with that.

the exception is is for instance, the dial has turned a full 12 o clock plus a couple, an u think, hey it s out " a couple" but its out 12 o clock plu the couple,.....until then, no real issue?

With a bolt gun at worst you can put it at want you think is zero and just bore sight it by eye. It will be close enough you will know you're not off by an entire turn.

Should be no such thing as a scope with tactical turrets not having a zero stop. It is retarded.

As stated previously, you can use a 30moa rail and make the bottom of the elevation turret the zero stop... I'm doing the same thing with a 40moa rail and a Strike eagle 5-25 so that I don't have to install the zero stop at all and can use the full internal adjustment of the scope.
