Hello guys, i was wondering if anyone has any experience with the Vortex Diamondback 4-16 scope. I am reasonably new to this and looking at that scope for a 30 06. Most of the info and reviews i can find are good, but a couple have not liked the eye relief. Does anyone have any first hand experience with this? Is this a reasonable scope for the money? I will not be hunting with this, just shooting paper and gongs. Any insight would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any help.

I use it on my 22 no issues. I would be ok using at the range in a bigger rifle. I’ve wrecked a slightly cheaper Vortex on a Center fire hunting rifle so I wouldn’t depend on a Diamondback hunting. YMMV.

It all depends on the shooter. I find with my eyes vortex work best. I’ve tried bushnell, leupold, burris scopes of various sorts and magnifications and always went back to vortex because it is what felt most natural when I looking down range. With that being said, I have had nothing but solid reviews with my vortex.

I initially started with a crossfire 2 on my 308, which ended up being upgraded to a diamondback tactical... have not had a single regret or issue since.. and that’s hunting and shooting paper.
I also have a diamondback HP on my both my 243s. One of which took a nice buck in 2019.. at any rate, no issues or complaints their either.

For shooting paper and gongs vortex has reasonable scope for their price point. IMO I wouldn’t break the bank on a scope unless it was for hunting or pro sporting reasons. With that being said, go to your local store and see if they can mount a couple scopes on a bare stock... you’ll know right away which one has a good eye relief for you or not.

It’s a decent scope for what it costs. I don’t think you could necessarily do better for the price. Maybe if you could find a Nikon on clearance. I’d even consider that a lateral move but maybe a little less expensive.
For the most part these days, scope quality and features are relative to the price.
That being said, spend as much as you can. The difference is noticeable as you go up a few hundred dollars usually.

I have one of those diamondback HP 4x16s on a ruger M77 hawkeye magnum hunter in 300 win mag. It is a fantastic scope, and quite frankly has nicer glass in it than an much older viper 4x16 50 mm I have on a 30-06. I have not had issue with POI moving on me mysteriously between sessions. Probably 100 ish rounds down the pipe while it sits on the magnum.

The glass is pretty bad on Diamondbacks. I notice it big time every time I pick up the gun after using anything else I own.
