Why are flash hiders so highly regulated?

I'm looking for an SEI vortex. Can't be imported, but I see some people have them up here. Are these pre - import ban?

Are there any copies available?
 
We tried getting the SEI Vortex however, we are not able to obtain the export permit for it. Not sure how some people can have it here thou.
 
No more copies of it.... Ron smith has taken legal action every time he discovers a knock off ;)
It is an article of war and part of the smith enterprise direct connect suppressor system. It is listed as Not Exportable, US sales only.
I have one and I'm keepin it :D . They do pop up in the EE from time to time.
 
The US restrictions on export of flash hiders and brakes as SME has actually resulted in these being made in this country.
Maybe that is the silver lining.
 
If there was a Canadian made product that was as effective as the SEI vortex and functioned on my Norc M305 I'd be all over that like a fat kid on a cupcake.

ATRS just posted a comparison video that featured the SEI vortex. comparing muzzle breaks and flash hiders. Including some of their own (ATRS) flash hiders. The ATRS were effective, but the SEI blew me away. The flash was a little flicker, like that of a bic lighter.
