There is a HUGE price difference between these two magnifiers. They are both 3x. Is the eye relief, glass, etc that different? Does anyone have first hand experience with both that would be willing to share their thoughts? The Vortex is cheap in dollars as a magnifier, but if it is a paper weight it is very expensive.

I have both in the store that clients have looked though.

There is a difference.

Eye relief is one of the big differences as is glass quality.

Both work.

It's all in the details. In all respects the aimpoint is a superior product. The question is will you use it to the degree that you will meet those limitations?

If you look at the spec sheets for the optics and magnifiers there is no comparrison. Aimpoint is the better tool. The Vortex products work and are well made. It's really a use / budget question.

I think they both suck, yes I bought used and sold them. If you want magnification save for a 1-4 optic, I would recommend the Trijicon TR24 green chevron.

Yeah, I decided to try the vortex for this reason. The only sandbox I am going to is an actual sandbox with my daughter. If I find the eye relief unbearable than I can always upgrade later, and probably sell this on the ee for a loss of 75 bucks or something minor.
