Was looking on line at the Vortex offerings.

What are the opinions on the glass and optical quality of these scopes in their various lines.

What can they be compared to?Do they have the quality and build of say Zeiss, Leupold , and others?

In short: yes.

Vortex makes everything fomr $2700 long range precision scopes, down to $150 scopes to throw on baby's first .22

Their viper line is really good. Their razor line is better. Their diamondbacks are generally not bad glass for the cash.

I have a Vortex 2-7 that was around $300. Is is clearer than my baush n lomb 3200. It was only intended to be a temporary scope untill i could afford/justify spending a little more, but it seems quite clear and bright so im going to just keep it.

Just make sure you never buy any brands $99 scope.

I will likely be getting something in the 6.5 - 20 or so, 50mm. 1K mark give or take depending on options.Still 99% sure I want the Zeiss with rapid Z 1000 , just looking at all other options.

Go for it but understand that there are better turrets for the price. Other than that one design flaw, the Vortex PSTs are absolutly fantastic.

Whichever route you go, make sure you know how to use your turrets and know their limitations. Just because they advertise 19.0 x 19.0 mils doesn't mean you'll get it.

If you are looking at Zeiss and that price range you'll never be happy with Vortex. Why would you even consider spending that kind of money on a Vortex?

Probably because it's a mil/mil FFP scope with an illuminated, good looking, useful reticle. All you get with Zeiss is a good scope for shooting game at reletivly short ranges.

During the day light hours, my neighbor and I couldn't see a difference between my vortex diamond back and my zeiss conquest. Just two opinions though.

I just picked up one of their Razor HD scopes on a trade. It's quite well built, made in Japan. The tracking is what you'd expect from a $1400 scope, glass is good, I've only zeroed it, but I'm very satisfied with it so far.

Bought a vortex sparc. The low rise mount didn't fit.

15 seconds into my phone call to vortex warranty, I had a new mount enr in mail. No questions asked.

Best warranty I've ever seen.

mil/mil or moa/moa are simply preferences some like one others swear by the second. In a dial up scope a few windage hashmarks are helpful, the rest is window dressing. SFP like the Rapid Z 1000 are a great choice for coyote hunters that need fast target acquisition and don't have time for dialing up a turret. Everybody has their own likes and dislikes.

X2 Once somebody buys the hunting scope for more than lets say $300-$400 with todays cut throat competition the difference between say 92% and say 95% light transmision is moot b/c only the testing equipment worth tens of thousands of dollars can check it. The scope advertised with 4sec clarity or 6sec clarity is meaningless b/c average Joe's eye sharpness might be 7 or 8 seconds of angle. So whenever somebody buys NF, March, Leupold M4 or Ziess all they get is large mushroom size bill for "brand name" and lots of hot air indoctrination.

x3. Morning hunts with my Sightron SIII with a 56mm objective and my Vortex PST with a 50mm objective showed very good light transmision with both scopes. Vortex's glass may be Filipeno but it's just as good as the Japanese Sightrons.

I looked at the Vortex PST today , nice scope seemed very clear. What I didn't like is that it has very short eye releif 3.3 inches I think .

I got the same answer from Liberty optics and from Vortex directly.
Thank you for you interest in our products. The Viper PST's are manufactured in the Philippines and use premium Japanese glass for the optical system"

apparently the glass is from Japan , assembled in Philippians

i have a diamondback and i really like it, nice and bright in low light, bdc is great on my 270 and lifetime no questions asked warranty.
I also have 10x42 crossfire bino's, excellent, same warranty

Nikon Omega

Anyone using this scope on their muzzy? i'm wondering if the bdc reticle still works on a lighter bullet and not a magnum charge. i usually shoot 100grns of powder not 150.
