Vortex Optics...what do you guys think?

Ummm, aren't these scopes manufactured in Ontario..Guelph or Kitchener i believe!?

No Viper products are manufactured in Canada.. or the U.S. for that matter.

Viper line = Philippines

.. I'm still using my old Viper and it's been great, I got this thing before Viper was a house-hold name and I suspect their quality/quality control might have been better. The PST I bought had an issue right out of the box, not to mention piss-poor glass, so I got a new one on warranty and sold it for another Nightforce.

I'm still a Vortex fan but they need to get some issues resolved.

Oh ok, i was talking with a gun shop employee and he told me they were manufactured in Ontario, but whatev..i have the Diamondback 3-9x40 on my 30-06 Savage, but have yet to try it on the range..hopefully this weekend...will report.

I've been researching a lot over the past month while trying to decide on a scope for my .204.One thing that i've been able to ascertain is that Vortex has one of the highest rates of returns in the industry.Given the prices of their products, that is a definite deal breaker.

See I'm a big fan of vortex, because it never costs anything to get product fixed.

Every time I've lost a lens cap in the bush or snapped a screw overtightening a scope mount, it's been 2 minutes on the phone and 5 days for an envelope of parts to show up in the mail.

Their warranty is pretty damn stellar, and they make the kind of gear that I don't see bushnell or leupold offering.

When it comes to something like the 1-4 PST with a milrad reticle, or a front focal plane 4-16 PST with a horus-style reticle: you just don't find those things for under $1000 from anyone else.

If you have $2500 to spend you do get a lot more options. Next to nightforce, S&B and some of the high end leupold, vortex has some pretty stiff competition. But when it comes to the $300-$1000 range there isn't any other optic I'd buy.

I've owned . . . 10 (holy #### ten!) different types of Vortex optics and never had a catastrophic failure.

This is reassuring, I have been hunting for an optic for my 22LR for a while now, the Diamondback is on my very short list. I do not want to spend 500-600 on a scope for my 22LR if it was a .308 Long Range..then I would budget the 1-2k for an optic. Vortex is my front runner because of the warranty, the zero reset and the BDC crosshairs. Seeing the mixed bad and good experiences with the product I am hoping I am not in for a world of hurt.

I thought choosing a rifle or pistol was hard..optics are 10x harder a choice.

Good warranty is dope sauce but personally I can't stand it when I have a gun fail on range day. Its a 3 hour round trip to my usual spot not including range time. When a cheap product breaks its a sh**ty day. I don't care if they'll just keep replacing it, that shows me they made such a wide profit margin that I really question the value. Frankly offering more features at a lower price is a huge red flag for me. I'll continue to pay for quality from more reputable companies. If you don't mind waiting on warranty more often then you can afford cheaper optics than I can :) To each their own.

Vortex Binoculars - awesome - great quality, excellent value.
Vortex Scopes - won't touch them again. Had a Viper PST AND Razor HD require warranty work. Fool me twice, shame on me.

I've owned a lot of other brands (primarily Trijicon, Nightforce, Leupold) - ZERO issues requiring any kind of warranty, and owned them a lot longer and ran them a lot harder.

In the same price point, I'd recommend Sightron over Vortex any day of the week. However, I've become a bit of a optics snob, so I've almost moved to ALL Nightforce. Buy once, cry once. ;)

But that's just it...they cram a whole bunch of features, great styling, and amazing reticles into a rifle scope, and then sell it at a price that would cost you double from Nightforce, or Leupold. How does that make sense? From a quality standpoint, how does all of that, at a very affordable price, make any sense? For me, I'm beginning to think that it's almost too good to be true. So what do they do, they sell you a "great" optic, but you're really paying for their warranty, and you can send your scope in how ever many times you want for either a repair, or a new scope...whichever is more feasable.

I won't disagree that within that $300 - $1000 price range they have probably the best to offer...but is it really worth it? Not knowing how the scope will perform or hold-up on an outing? I don't know...I'm still hosting this debate with myself...

Vortex has hands down the best FFP entrance level scope out there, perhaps not after if and or when the SIII has FFP and better reticule options but until then vortex has it in the bag.

now if your not looking for FFP then that may change things.

If you read the Vortex warranty it states four to six weeks, since they send them back to the US. One issue with Vortex warranty claims is that if you get a bad scope from the retailer it is no longer possible to return the scope to the retailer, instead the purchaser has to return the scope. I do not think it is such a good idea to purchase Vortex scopes with out examining them in person prior to actually purchasing the scope. i.e DO NOT BUY THEM FROM ON LINE RETAILERS!!!!

I want a scope with an iron clad warranty for piece of mind......but I also want the piece of mind of owning a scope that will probably never need that warranty. If I have to pack up my scope for ANY reason and send it back to the company, excluding custom work, then that's not piece of mind. For me, Vortex does not fit the bill.

Those are goods scopes price to sell, my idea is if you gonna spend 700.00 for a Vortex, just spend 900.00 and get a Sightron, those are sleepers of top notch quality, in my book that is... JP.

I'm quite happy with my Razor HD 1-4. The glass quality is great, and it's built like a tank. My only complaint is it weighs about the same as a tank too. ;)

I hear you on that...but the only thing that I don't like about Sightron is their reticles. That and the fact that they are missing a scope in between their 3-10x and their 6-24x...in my opinion, they should have a 3 or 4-15 or 16x...

Their Target Dot reticule is the best for me, i even prefer this reticule to the one in my 5X25X56 P4L 2FF, talking of reticule here not clarity... JP.
