****Vortex Optics WOW!!!!****

Bwaahahhhahaahhahaha, you almost had me until this last comment.:D

(Acura, Lexus, Infiniti) Better check consumers guide for reliability. In the last 10 years GM, Ford, Suzuki and Chrysler have been the last 4 manufactures out of 21 for reliability. The most reliable pick up truck is the Honda Ridgeline (ugly and not a real hunting rig) and prior to that was the Nissan Titan and then Toyota. I had wished that our own domestic products were better, however; they can't compete. Now don't tell me that North America make better sporting firearms than our european friends? European gun makers blow us out of the water.

Real men drive superdutys.... not honda ridge lines........ i wouldn't even buy a ridgeline for my wife... talk about embarrassing..... New Fords are awesome Few years back yea toyota had the best truck but nothing you could take to work.

Had one toyota truck, won't ever make that mistake again, and the arrogance at the service department was appalling. Don't forget that the spare tire in a ridgeline is stored in a cavity under your load so you have to unload your truck to get to it, how stupid is that!

The fact is that most glass for optics are manufactured in Japan and have for decades, including Swarvoski, Zeiss, and Leica. The Germans don't make their glass it the Japanese who make it for them. Quality of glass depends on quality and quanity of polishing. I'm assuming that the Vortex glass is made in Japan as well. Japan has made some of the best cameras in the world, case in point I just purchased a FujiFilm camera recently and compared it to a Canon of equal value and design and the Fujifilm won hands down! Japan has made many great products, hell they even make the best vehicles in the world which include Honda and Toyota. I feel sorry for those people what they are going through now.

You do know Canon is and always has been Japanese right. Not to mention they are excellent cameras.

I drive a Toyota because it's the best...wait a second isn't this thread about Vortex optics?!

I just got back from the range tring out my new Viper scope. And I definately have to say price to quality ratio is outstanding. I will probably be looking to buy another in the futrue as long as the price remains as good as it is.

I use a Vortex scope because its the best.

Cheers.

Reliability isn't everything ;) The "best car" often isn't the most reliable, at least in my eyes! I suppose it depends on what you value in a car when you say the word "best".

Ya maybe true but hook a trailer to any of them and they are done...Bud has a Ridgeline and pulling a light trailer with a couple sleds my F350 kills it if fuel economy with twice the load weight not to mention I can put the weight of his truck in the bed of mine without an issue..Sorry for hijacking your thread

Yes I can't wait to purchase a pair of those Viper HD 10x42. The price and quality is to good to be true, but it is. I've used and tried many high quality optics but never had I've witnessed a $650.00 binocular to stand-up to a $1,600.00 Swarvoski. Vortex has a higher end binocular but the Viper HD is good enough for me. I'll wait until the Easter week-end to see if they will have them on sale..............usually there are sales at the hunting/fishing stores on this weekend because of the big gun show at the old Round-Up Centre. Can't wait!!!

There was a time when CZ rimfire rifles weren't much over $200. As popularity caught on, CZ was able to raise MSRP and continue selling them. Vortex will be the same way. I am guessing they are running thinner than normal margins to break into the market, and once they have, watch the price gap between a higher end Vortex and Zeiss/Swarovski/etc. start to shrink.

And to add to the O/T, Japan has built better quality cars than North America for years. What the Americans continue to do the best (IMO) is make real, heavier duty (bush/work/towing) trucks.

I have looked through a few pairs of $500 - $600 binoculars and compared them with my buddies swarovski EL's at dusk..... absolutely no comparison those swarovski's are amazing and you pay for them. But at the same time if the cheaper pair works then there is nothing wrong with that.
I have heard alot of good hype about vortex though and wouldn't mind trying one of their higher end binos or spotting scopes.

Ok I see the KoolAid is strong with you young jedi, keep drinking it. Also European car manufacturers might have something to say about your claims , not to mention that American muscle has always dominated in the HP/$ area , but hey more Priuses for you right ???;) I'd rather have a domestic simply bcs they're cheaper to buy/fix/maintain , not to mention help your own economy. Also Suzuki is Japanese FYI.

Ah, the elusive dream bino which costs one fourth as much as German optics but through which one "can't tell the difference." I personally don't believe in miracles. If you do, feel free to indulge your fantasy. Value priced binos are great and serve a purpose, i.e. saving moola in the coola when we can't afford three pay checks dropped on a set of Swaros. But don't fool yourself that they will compare to a top end German bino in any respect. I only wish.

You said it not me...............fix and maintain. Hence, the point of what I previouly quoted in a post, the most reliable vehicles "in the recent years" are the Japanese built. I remember a quote from an old guy back in 1980, and he said, "who is the idiot driving that Datsun pick-up truck". Guess what? I would support our domestic products, but not when they build a POS that break down all of the time. Better read the consumer guide/report, it's fact and fact is the truth.

Take a photographer with you when you go shopping for optics. They spend FAR too much time behind quality glass to not be able to give you good advice. I take my wife with me. According to her practiced eyes, the Leupold Olympics had the best glass.....best being not worth the price jump up to the swarovski. The choice was based mostly on clarity and chromatic abberration.

sorry but lenses (this is the name for glass optics) are still made in Europe not only the polishing (not only in Europe) and by many operators :

Zeiss (Germany, Japan, Hungary, Czech Republic),
Docter ex-karl zeiss jena (Germany),
Swarovski (Austria, Japan)
Kahles (Austria) is still making lenses and not only for them ...,
Schmidt und Bender (Germany, Hungary)
Meopta (Czech Republic, Japan)
IOR (Romania)
Kaps, Gerhardt, Nickel (Germany)

and i certainly forget some other very little companies ....

cant comment for Leica riflescopes but pretty sure its Japan as it was for the Leupold Leica before ... but some of the optics for camera are coming from germany.

if you have a little time you ll discover that Schott Glasses is making lenses for many optic builders ... they re made in Mayenz ... and the big ones are still buying there ..

Thanks! Always willing to learn more. I believe that Leupold have their lenses manufactured in Japan as well, especially for their higher end optics. If you have a chance check out the Vortex binoculars.................you will be impressed with the both lenses and price.

Sorry to burst your bubble but a Honda Ridgeline is NOT a truck, its a car with a box. It has no frame it has a car unibody design hence there being no split between the cab and the box.

If you sit to pee you might consider it a truck but no one else should make the mistake

I know a brick layer who bought a full sized Totota truck and considered it the worst decision he ever made. It burned gas like it was free and the first time he put a load of sand in the box it crumpled like cheap card board.

Ford has done me proud for 20 years and they get better each iteration. As for why you might need to repair them, it is because people actually work them and not just drive them to soccer and the nail salon

I shot the CQB in Borden this past Saturday with a Vortex Sparc during a rain storm. It got soaked and kept on working fine. It has been holding zero well. I have no complaints. Awesome optic for the price. It has a hard to find battery only because it gives more power to see the dot in bright conditions unlike the comparable Bushnell. I just ordered 10 batteries from The Source and got them in a few days.
