Vortex or Redfield

Hey everyone, I am asking for opinions for a scope for my Howa 1500 243 . Debating between Redfield REVOLUTION 4-12x40 or Vortex Diamondback 4-12x40. Going to be using this rifle for varmint hunting mostly.Thoughts or anything else out there along the same lines?

My main reason is that scope has never let me down and I have been hunting with it for the past 4 years. I can't say that about any of the vortex products I have owned.
 
Cheaper optics are more prone to failure then higher end stuff, that being said Vortex's warranty is in writing for full replacement whether it's a manufacturer defect OR abuse. Korth will not replace your scope if you drop your rifle and the lens cracks, they might fix it at the same price it would be to buy a new one. Vortex mails you a new one, no questions asked.
Lets face it, both are budget optics. You aren't going to be counting the hairs on a fleas arse at 100 yards with it, Id buy the Vortex anyday over Redfield. Ive owned many Vortex products and have used them for big game, varmints, coyotes in all temps and never had one fail.
 
in this price range, I will suggest the Sightron SIH family of scopes.

They have just done a big rebuild and the optics are WAY above the price point. I have avoided this end of Sightron products but these ones really surprised and I mean the eye box, eye relief, resolution and clarity are really very good... in a wow, I can see really well close and far.

Sold several with very positive feedback so have to assume tracking is working well too.

In a 1" scope, this has really changed what I would expect in this price range... and they are CHEAP.

Revolution is made in the USA, pretty decent glass for the $$, would be my choice of the 2.
Diamondback is made in the Philippines which can turn out good scopes, but you will probably be better with a Nikon (also Philippines) in that price range.
 
Vortex, I have the same one that you are looking at, the 4-12x40. I use it on my Savage 10TR.

Glass is very good, and clear. So far it has held zero after 40 rds of 308 (granted 40 rounds is low).

Eye relief is excellent.

The only thing that I would recommend for you is to perhaps look for the version that has an adjustable objective. I only use my rifle for range shooting, and at 25 yrds zoomed in, it is not focused. The adjustable objective should correct it.

The turret clicks are very audible and tactile - I like it.

Best warranty in the business.

See Sightron.com for the options and let me know what you are interested in. They are WAY below the previous SIIB's and current SIII's. Of course, you can use Sightron US MSRP as a comparative measure against other US MSRP's if you want a quick ballpark

The only thing I have no data on is durability... my goal is to get one mounted up shortly and give it a workout. Or maybe current owners can give me their experiences.

From a tactile POV, it "works" really well... some of the nicest clicks on a scope.

I have looked at the previous gen scopes (when they first came out) and they were Meh, at best.... I am trying to be polite :)

What they are doing now is really impressive.... hope it doesn't change.... except to keep getting better.
