Vortex Possible Flaw or All scopes

Hey Guys,

I just received a used Vortex 2.5-10x44 EBR-1 MRAD and noticed that once i completely focused out of the reticle that there was a black imperfection that looks similar to a small moon. I was wondering if these imperfections are common or if its a problem with my scope. Thanks in advance and all the best.

Mind you the reticle is not actually visible by me when this is taken. But when the reticle is in full focus this does not appear.
 
this would be an imperfection in your glass. Contact Vortex Canada and I am sure that they will take it back and replace with a new scope.
 
I have that same scope, and mine looks clear as can be. No imperfections.
Vortex will sort this out. Great warranty
 
It might be coating from the inside of the scope tube. It has been suggested to whack the scope on a phone book or similar to get it off the lenses.

I wouldn't be too willing to whack the scope in any way if i can avoid it lol.
 
Pretty common to have problems with scopes that are manufactured in the third world. Vortex is great though, they'll keep sending you scopes and eventually you'll end up with one that'll work. It seems they like to leave quality control in the customer's hands.
 
what do you mean by focused out?

I do know that vignetting happens with these scopes if you max out elevation or windage in one direction and then reduce magnification all the way down you WILL see the erector tube in the sight picture. This is due to how vortex made the scope without putting a stop at the maximums in order to increase the amount of available “clicks”

Return the scope to mechanical centre.

By Focused out i mean that on the ocular lens when I adjust the eye piece to the full + side I can see this imperfection, however when its at the regular focus where I can see the reticle perfectly this imperfection does not appear.

Also I am unsure what vinetting means would you be willing to explain it as google define did not quite explain it to me lol.

Adjust both the windage and elevation turrets to the middle of their travel ranges. The problem should ease.
 
Vignetting is a shadow by the edge of the sight picture it can happen with poor eye relief, or mechanically like in the PST by having the turrets cranked all the way in one direction with the mag on low setting you will start to see the elevation tube inside the scope by the edge of the sight picture.

I'm not sure if this is what is happening for you but it might be.

from you description it sounds like you are adjusting the ocular ring focus at the back of the eye piece to its maximum range. if so is this the location that sharpens up the reticule the best?

if so there may be a problem with the scope .

if not you only set this once and really never adjust it so it's a non-issue if the imperfection is not visible.

Looking at the pictures there seems to be a spec on the lens, bottom right quadrant, if this is the "small moon" you are talking about then to me this would be an issue if it’s internal and would need to be returned.

I sold JNA the scope, the mark was not present (I have pictures) when I packaged it up so I am betting on a piece of something in the tube left from manufacture getting kicked up during shipping. I also recomended a good wack, but exchange should be an easy fix to as WSS will do a 1 for 1 with reciept (which I included in the box).

Not blaming LordEvilPepper at all we had a great transaction and he answered all pms to the best of his ability. I attempted a few good whacks, but still no noticeable result. I have already contacted Vortex and they told me to send it in. Sucks that I gotta pay for shipping the item, but might get a brand new scope out of it :).
