Vortex Razor Gen 2 4.5-27

Please - educate me on what is wrong about what I said on SFP vs. FFP.

I didn't say he shouldn't hold over, I said that most won't bother.

I'm intrigued to hear about the use of higher powers for closer targets, and lower for more distant. Makes no sense to me, but what do I know.

higher mag = tremors magnified. When I shoot out to 300 yards at my range I dial it back to 18. Especially when shooting standing with sling I dial it back to 12, otherwise you can't get a good aim holding a 14.5 pound rifle/scope/bipod combo with a full 10 round mag. Really makes me want to hit the gym or get a lighter chassis. The scope and mount combo weigh almost 3 pounds but i'm not getting rid of that!

That's a $4500+ scope.

It's your money, if you want it, giv'er.

4250 for a pmii with h-59 reticle last time I checked at wolverine.

I am looking for an illuminated, ffp, preferaly christmas tree reticle (H59 for S&B and EBC-2 MRAD for vortex) all MRAD.

Looks like you you've narrowed it down, there is about a $800 dollar difference between the two depending on features. I have the EBR-2C MRAD reticle in my Vortex which I like better then the H59 that I have in my Bushnel XRS. I found the EBR-2C to be less cluttered and the main cross hairs are a bit thinner, I imagine the H59 in the S&B would be the same.

It's defiantly a tough choice, I was lucky enough to get a bit of a deal on my vortex so it was a no brainer for me.

Pardon my laziness, but I don't shoot standing up.....!!!!.... Unless I'm
Hunting.

I didn't either until my first PR match. Now it's something I want to get proficient at... also shooting unsupported prone with sling. Heck before that match I thought slings were useless for a range gun. The first Precision rifle match changed all that. I realized there that I didn't want or need a 12-50 scope for that style shooting.

Dont' have much time but:

- Less magnification at further distances because it allows you to view conditions as well as impacts. Two peices of critical information. Even if you have a .5MOA gun, not accounting for proper wind will have you missing by feet when distance is involved. Atmospheric calls mean everything. Seeing a target at 1000+ is easy at 15x. Up close, you want to be as precise as possible because of very little atmosphic affects. The bullet generally goes where you point it, so it's critical it's pointed precisely.

- While some FFP plan reticles are thicker and others thinner, most have thick lines on the exterior so when you zoom out the main area shrinks but the large lines come in. Depends on your use and eye sight, but not a problem for me. As mentioned, the EBR-2C is a pretty thin reticle. When zoomed in, you retain the same reticle as any other non-FFP scope. It's not like you only have 2moa FOV.

I forget the rest of the points you made.

JNA, I'll give you my opinion on these scopes as I own a Razor 4.5-27, and a couple S&Bs, and just sold my Atacr for another S&B. You can probably see the theme my opinions are going, lol.
First off, everyone has different opinions and in reality, all these scopes are so close, there is really no bad call between any of these. I think you are right to choose the features that best suit your shooting style, and the glass in any of them should not be your major deciding factor.
I love my vortex and found it just a bit better all round then my Atacr, but it was close. Some of my shooting buddies actually preferred the Atacr, that's how close they are. We all agree though, that the S&Bs are a step above. It is true though that it is an older design, has some flaws as well and the stated warranty is weaker. I am not concerned about the warranty, (maybe I should be??), but I have bought a bunch of stuff over the years from Guy at Wolverine and he said if any if any of mine ever went down, they'd stand behind them. Maybe I'm naive taking his word for it, but he says there has been less then a handful of S&Bs of all different mags ever come back, and the few that did, were replaced/repaired by Schmidt on their dime.
All the scopes are going up big time pretty soon, as old in stock stuff gets moved, so if you see a good deal on any of the ones you are considering, I'd think hard on it. I got my Vortex thru my dealer here in Edmonton, and he told me last week that the new stock will be almost 1000$ more then what I paid last year on my 4.5-27. Same with any new S&Bs coming from Germany. Or so says Wolverine. Bought my Atacr thru Grouse River, and would assume the same there too?
Would really help to try and find someone around who has these to look thru and get behind them yourself, as in the store you just can not make a real determination of what they'll be like on a gun in the real world.
Hope that helps you...

Get it in writing from Wolverine... Formal, not an e-mail, etc.

Have them mail something out from the owner on letterhead.

Enjoy the new scope. I'm sure you will.

I ordered a Schmidt and Bender 5-25x56 PMII. Wolverine told me it has a 10 year warranty. Is this true or not true?

They used to be 10year warranty but a couple years ago changed it to two years. I have heard from second hand accounts that they have been taking care of people regardless of how long ago you bought your scope. I have a couple and not at all worried about the warranty.
