So I've been reading about the move from does and holographic sights to true 1-x scopes with illuminated reticles. Ignoring cost, I get the argument. I have a delta point pro on my pistol and like it. A 2 Moa dot is big though.

My biggest concern with a scope is being able to shoot two eyes open at close range. That's obviously where the eotech's excel. I do not have a similarly high quality scope to compre with. I only have a vx freedom 3-9 on a rimfire rifle. With that scope, I sometimes have trouble avoiding shadowing around the edges. It's sensitive to head movement. That's unacceptable to me on a rifle I'll be moving and shooting with.

I'll mostly be shooting within 200 yds due to range limitations, but I do want to do some cab stuff at sign academy, and will also probably do some 3 gun matches that require shooting farther out.

Thoughts?

FWIW I've decided to go with the red eotech. I think they get bright enough on their own, and Garand Thumb did a review of the green and didn't feel it was ready for prime time (much more fuzzy than the red, even when focusing beyond the reticle/ I'll put the Vortex or a Leupold Mark 6 on the rifle I build for competition.

Razor has a massive eye relief and is very easy. Glass is super sharp and the illumination is red dot bright. Weight is probably comparable to an eotech plus magnifiers.

Razor 1-6 is going to be a clear winner here. There's a reason you literally never see Eotechs, or any red dot with flip magnifier, near the top of major 3gun matches. They just can't compete.

Razor is excellent at two eye shooting at 1x close range, and also excels at mid range shooting.

Yup. I miss my old Razor 1-6. I sold it and swapped to a red dot save some weight, but the tradeoff wasn't really worth it. I'm keeping my eyes open for a new HD-E to go back.

The weight and unlimited eye relief on red dots and holos is great, but they're of limited use past 300 for anything other than man size targets.
