I was wondering what peoples opinions were on vortex rifle scopes, cause I was thinkink that or the bushnell 3200 10x tactical for 223 paper punching out to 500m... also what about mueller scopes?

I have the Vortex Viper 6.5-20 X 44 PA, and I'm very happy with it. It's my first scope, so I don't have anything to compare it to, but it's got excellent glass, holds zero, and has one of the best warranties in the business. I've used it out to 375yds so far, and plan to use it well beyond that, once I get to a long enough range.
Damn, sometimes I wish I lived closer to Kamloops!

FYI, I have a Meuller Eraticator (8-25?x50)that I use on a varmint gun. For the price, it was a great buy. Very positive feel to the turrets, small floating dot, glass as good as any in its price range. Surprisingly good repeatability.

My only criticism of the Vortex is the huge crosshair/dot that they use in their reticle. Too big for my taste when you are trying to precision shoot, but that is the case with most mid-range scopes.

Agreed on the target dot, that's why I chose the dead hold BDC reticle instead. The crosshairs are kinda big, but that doesn't bother me. The V-plex wide reticle would be fine, if you didn't want the holdover and windage pips.

That is the reason I'm always surprised by how popular Bushnell scopes are in general.

The reticles are far too thick for my liking.
